      Does What It's Supposed To

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Bass Drum Mute:

The product does what it advertises, is well made, easy to install with excellent instructions, and adjustable for those of us who like large bass drums (up to 26 inches).
As a sufferer with tinnitus and hyperacusis (sensitivity to loud noise), the Sound Off Bass Drum Mute has made a major difference in the volume of my bass drum (14x24 Ludwig 70's three ply). The directions were well written and easy to follow. It was easy to assemble and mount. It feels pretty natural, if a bit more clicky than I'm used to. I know that others have had some durability issues, but I think that it will hold up OK for me as I tend to hit and release instead of burying the beater.
It should, along with the other muffling devices that I've ordered, prevent further damage to my hearing. I've had to give up playing for several months, and it was great to set down and play again without worrying about the tinnitus getting worse.
Like all Evans products, it was well made and well designed.
A bit pricey, but well worth it in my opinion. This is probably the best and cleanest looking option if volume reduction is a priority.

Works for a little while, then breaks.

      NOT built to last
What an excellent idea, to develop mutes for your drums so you don't bother your neighbors.. Another excellent idea would be to make them durable enough to last for more than a couple of months.. I'm on my SECOND SoundOff Bass drum mute, and i just looked and saw that it already has a hole in it, from maybe only 10 hours of playing. All my cymbal mutes are frayed around the edges, and my snare drum mute has a gigantic gaping whole in it...

They work great when they work, but they're NOT built to last.

      Can't recommend

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Bass Drum Mute:

I got this with the whole kit and the cymbal mutes that come with that are amazing but the bass drum mute is crap. It will break quickly. It does mute the drum and if it just didnt wear out after 3-4 hours of pratice then I would have been sold. The c-clap sysyem is great actually and its really secure once strapped on.

Do not expect it to last.

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Bass Drum Mute:

This product worked well for me... for a while. Not long after I got it, the beater broke through the rubber part. It looked like it was hard plastic that shattered. It wore through the foam behind it and got stuck in it and that's when I noticed the problem. Nice design. Easy to use, but does not last.

      Pretty good.

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Bass Drum Mute:

If your bass drum is tuned properly, it'll still make some noise, but it definitely softens the blow. It also will save your heads while you do practice better than a patch will. You have to tighten it up, and it takes a bit to get it on, but you can easily just get it off by loosening the "c-clamps" since you have the middle rods adjusted already. It could be cheaper, seeing what it's made out of can't be expensive, but obviously, you have no choice.

      Heh...its ok

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Bass Drum Mute:

Im a pretty fast double bass drummer, these make barely mute the bd. After around a month or two i got a huge crack from left to right, making it a lot louder. It takes a bit to get it on, and off. It also seems like it makes my bass drum louder, mine is muffled and it sounds softer without it on. But its pretty good for the money.

      Sound-Off

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Bass Drum Mute:

This product does what it says it does. It wont completly dampen the bass drum, but reduces the noise by 70 percent. The little plastic doo-hickies that keep it from scratching your kit will fall off. A little glue will fix that. I added an extra layer of foam padding on the batter side which helps. If noise is a factor for practice time, this will help. Just could have been built a little better.

      awful quality

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Bass Drum Mute:

I bought this and got only about a month out of it. And I didn't play all that often during that month. At first the mounting system kept giving out and the muter would fall off. Then my mallet started to break through the foam and get stuck in the middle of it. Then, finally, the mounting system broke completely and I was screwed. Total waste of money. I don't even play that hard.
