This is an excellent way of getting a real good punchy bass drum sound without having to completely empty your wallet. It is straightforward to install; it took me about 45 minutes to get the unit installed and the microphone mounted where I wanted it. The majority of your time will be spent cutting the rubber "cord" included to get the mount positioned within the bass drum and then maybe some additional cutting once you have the microphone on the mount. After that, you can forget all about it. My mount is holding a Shure Beta52A and works beautifully.

I've had one of the composites for over a year. Loved it when I first got it. Makes things easy no doubt. The downside is the rubber suspension pieces aren't holding up, three came loose on me. I was also having some trouble with "misfires", I use a kick drum gate, and internal mic'ing made this happen. Once I put the mic just inside the port, on a stand, it stopped misfiring. So I have finally removed my Kelly shu and gone back to a short mic stand.

This is a high quality product that is very easy to install. It is also one of the simplest and most economical solutions to rid yourself of lugging around unnecessary stands and equipment. You can install the SHU in any make of drum in 30 minutes or less. All you need is a screwdriver and a pair of scissors. This will give you a shock-mounted kick drum microphone holder without all the hassles and once it's done you never have to mess with it again. Simply the best money you will ever spend on a drum accessory!

I have one of these in my bass drum. Everything Kelly claims it can do, it does. So simple and yet so well built. I'm surprised no one thought of this 20 years ago. Thinking about a May drum mount? Here's the difference: The May mount attaches under existing hardware, but next to the shell, so you still get sympathetic shell and head vibration to your mic. Not so with the Kelly Shu. Mounts under existing hardware but with anti-vibe shock cords so no vibration at all. Easiest bass drum mount I have ever used, and I have used them all. There is a reason why Metallica's front of house guy uses these, among many, many other heavyweights. Get one today!
