Being familiar with woodblocks, I would say the LP woodblock is of decent construction. The odd thing about this woodblock is that it produces its best sound when hit with knuckles, rather than sticks or mallets. Trying to get the same sound as produced with knuckles by swatting it repeatedly with a rubber-tipped mallet produced a small crack at the edge of the long slot opening, but jamming a thick piece of cardboard in the slot under the crack and applying a small amount of super-glue fixed it right up, with no perceived loss of this woodblock's woody tone. Be not deceived; this woodblock rocketh the house, but woe be unto him who purchaseth this woodblock and vigorously whompeth it not with his knuckles! The price is a little stiff, but that's percussion for you. I picked up one at a thrift shop for a buck. YMMV.
