A collection of hot percussion gear, seven hours of drum instruction by Mike on DVD, and Mike's favorite toys for adding strong vibe and a rich mix of timbres to your music.
LP hooked up with skins master Mike Portnoy to release this limited edition Percussion Kit. A 2004 inductee into the Modern Drummer magazine's Hall of Fame with a 12-year run as the best progressive rock drummer in the magazine's reader's poll, as well as various live and clinic awards, Mike Portnoy certainly knows his way around a drum set.
This is a limited edition pack, with only 250 available, features:
The 3-DVD instructional set, Mike Portnoy: In Constant Motion, autographed by Mike Portnoy
An 11" Mike Portnoy Max Splash cymbal
A long sleeve Mike Portnoy t-shirt
A pair of Pro-Mark Mike Portnoy signature drumsticks, and
The Mike Portnoy Percussion Kit, which features a cowbell and tambourine--two underrated instruments vital to the vibe and percussive timbres of not only his own music as the ruler of time for Dream Theater, but that of his idols, Neil Pert, Keith Moon and John Bonham
11" Mile Portnoy Max Splash Cymbal from Sabian
This splash is one of Portnoy's odd-size signature models known for their rapid, glossy response, cutting penetration, and fast, punchy accenting.
This shirt is extra large like Mike's playing abilities, with a charcoal body and gray sleeves and neck area. A facsimile of his signature and symbol in gray sits on the right chest area, while the words "Carpe Diem" are neatly scripted in black along the left sleeve, a reflection of his tattoo and outlook on life.
The sticks included in this package are a rare treat. These particular TX420N's are Mike's personal stage sticks and cannot be bought anywhere, other than with this promotion, or if he were kind enough to hand them to you after a gig. They're 16 1/8" long, made of hickory and are slightly smaller in diameter (.531") than a hickory 5A with a 747 taper and nylon tip.

The first disc focuses on music from the last three Dream Theater albums; the second disc covers his work with TransAtlantic, OSI, and all four of his tribute bands; the last disc features bonus material, including tracks from Dream Theater's 20th Anniversary tour, live drum duets with special guests, and more.
The Mike Portnoy Percussion Kit
This percussion kit consists of an LP Rock Ridge Rider Cowbell, based on the LP Rock Cowbell. It features a red Jenigor plastic bar across the top edge, secured firmly with specially designed rivets. The Jenigor bar has a damping effect and, in addition, protects the bell's metal edge from denting. According to Mike's preferences, the LP Rock Ridge Rider Cowbell is somewhat higher in pitch than the LP Rock Classic Ridge Rider bell. It has all the body of the traditional rock bell but with a little more high-end cut.
The other instrumental half of the kit is also essential for capturing both the sixties sound and the range of tonalities in prog: the LP Mountable Cyclops Tambourine. This is the most ergonomically designed, comfortable, and durable tambourine ever produced. Its rounded edges provide extra durability against sustained drumstick striking, while nickel-plated steel alloy jingles deliver the bright, projecting sound that defines British pop. A patented jingle-pinning system locks the jingles in place. Because of its design, the LP Cyclops Tambourine will last much longer than ordinary tambourines. The inclusion of LP's forged eye-bolt assembly enables secure placement on standard 3/8" diameter rods, or on hi-hat stand pull rods.
Also included in the percussion package is an LP Mount-All Percussion Bracket, which includes a black powder-coated Z-rod that is ideal for any 3/8" diameter mountable percussion.

I got this percussion pack a while ago and I must say I'm impressed by the amount of bang you get for your buck. The 11" Splash was a great addition to my kit, really good splash cymbal, up there with HHX's in my opinion. Also, the shirt actually looks pretty cool, wasn't sure how it would look when I ordered it, but I'm happy with what I got. The LP percussion pack that comes with it is amazing, best cowbell and tambourine I've ever used, not to mention the pro mark sticks...good stuff. The DVD is also great.Definitely get this before it runs out!
I recently purchased this set and I am very impressed, both by the amount of stuff included and by the variety of styles that these accessories can be applied to. The splash is very clean, fast and glassy sounding. I owned the same cowbell (RR Rock) many years ago and having this bell again not only brings memories but also reminds me of just how nice it is to have a high caliber cowbell. It's very quick, cutting and to-the-point, great for all styles. The tambourine is also a very nice addition because it has that classic sound that many drummers look for in a tambourine and it's also incredibly durable and easy to integrate into my drum kit. The DVD's...well, it's Mike Portnoy. That should be enough of a description. I've used his sticks before and I like them a lot for live playing but I prefer heavier models for practice. The shirt is cool too. If you're looking for an inventive way to expand your sonic menu, this is the way to go.
