I've owned my Ludwig set for four years now, and I love the wayhow well built it's made and how sturdy it is. I am a hard hitter and I am amazed the snare and toms hold up to the ammount of power I use one them. However, if there was one gripe I have about it is that some of the lugs can get so darn tight I have to use more than just the lug key to loosen them. The sound is good (dampening pads help if you are picky about sound), and just overall it is a good set whether for beginners or for someone wanting a cheap set that sounds good.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I had been playing on my uncle's old kit for about seven years, a mixture of different pieces, that was used when he first got it. I looked at a lot of the sets and decided upon this Ludwig. It was better than I had thought! The materials are strong, the heads sound fine, but may need to be changed later on. The only two issues I had were the throne and hi-hat stand. I'm sure the throne is strong despite being thin and uncomfortable for long playing times, but it just feels like it's going to collapse. The hi-hat stand works great, but has trouble opening all the way under the weight of my hi-hat cymbals. Other than these, I highly reccomend this set, just be prepared to put in the time and effort to properly tune it!

If it came with the other snare i bought i wouldve been the happiest person in the world. Theyre all very good sounding after you put some better heads on.
Every single drum is GREAT except for the snare. I bought another ludwig snare thats i think 5 and a half inches thick and i couldnt be happier. I had yamaha stage customs, and these are WAY better! They have a warm sound, and are just amazing. Deffinitley replace the heads though.

A great drum kit for new drummers, this was my first kit and I couldn't have been more satisfied. the kit sounded great, however you should definitely save some money for new heads - at least a new snare head. Mine cracked in around 6 months. The tom heads are pretty low quality, and dent easily. the bass drum heads are okay, but you'll have to be willing to do at least 10 hours of good tuning your first day with all the heads. the snare drum sounds great with a new head, couldn't be more satisfied. The bass drum sounds great if you either get new heads or put a pillow in it and tune it well, the toms sound okay, but im getting new heads soon. The only hardware I got that came with the kit was a hihat stand, a throne, a snare stand, and legs for the toms/bass drum. the hihat stand is great, does it's job and works well, the throne is a little uncomfortable when you've been sitting on it for 1-1/2 hours, and everything else is fine. I love this kit!
