I own the 5x14 Black Magic. Excellent snare, and one i plan on keeping. I play in "bar bands" that play a 30 to 40 song set. The snare keeps in tune really well and even comes with an excellent Ludwig Black Magic batter head. The reso head is no good though and i would recommend changing it out immediately.
I have mine cranked up pretty tight and it seems to have the best response this way. Cuts though very nicely.

Fab looking and good mechanics, miss locking nuts.
I got the 14/65 black regular edition . Nice round and easy to tune, harder to stay tuned due to missing locking nuts. Can sound like my 1964 5 1/4supraphonic. and I can get a deeep powersnare with a pinstripe - really versatile.
Quality price ratio is 110% right in my favour.

WoW, What a snare drum! I own my share of snare drums, my go to snare has always been my Black Panther steel, no more, This Ludwig blows it away, Amazing deep rich tone, extrememly LOUD,Sensitive, I could go on and on...Its a very affordable all brass snare and the photo does not do this drum justice ! its stunning in person and a real head turner, as I said it plays beutifully, I own mapel snares from pearl, tama and Mapex black panther line in steel wood and brass...This drum right here is as good if not better than all of them. Ludwig has hit a homerun and this is a fantastic bargain, run dont walk to buy on! I have the 6/1-2 x 14del which to me is the perfect size for what I do Classic rock covers etc, This drum doesnt not even need to be mic'd even if your guitar player is at 11, its very comanding and no one will have any trouble knowing where the ONE is! I love this drum! My only slight very slight issue is I wish a little more thought went into the Snare strainer but it works fine! I did swap out the stock heads for a remo cs batter and a black suade snare side, the snare wires are fine and as good as any puresound...anyway go get it, you will love this beast of a snare! LOUD !!!

Been playing about 25yr's have had my share of Snare's, some good some not so good. And I would think back to the Supraphonic a plenty 70's and cry..Then I played the Black Magic. My other snare is now holding my Laptop, Headphones, drum key's and a sweat towel..Best Snare since the Supraphonic, worth every penny..if you have a good Kick, you need this Snare!

Purchased a 6.5 x 14 Ludwig Black Magic back in January. The drum really sounds and looks amazing on stage and records beautifully in any studio setting. It is a very versatile drum! It is absolutely an ear catcher!

All i have to say is this. EPIC. Once you pull this thing out of the box, it already dazzles you, just by the sheer beauty of its nickel rims, and jet black shell. The sound of it, is astonishing. I ordered a pair of remo's for the top and bottom heads, and some new snarewires. But once i heard the "Magic" that this snare produced, i shipped the extra necessities back to Mus. Friend. NEEDLESS TO SAY, for the price of this GODLY snare drum, you pay next to nothing for the quality that you get from it.LUDWIG, YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!

I wanted to add to my earlier review below. I've been playing this snare drum well over a month now & I'm definately impressed. I changed the snare cord/strap to nylon & I'm now able to adjust the snares a lot better. The snares are really responsive, no need to change them out. The snare drum is versatile...I've tuned it variously. I own the 6.5 x 14, and I get a lot of volume as well as sensitivity. I definately like the die cast hoops...great sound with clarity & bright "attack" along with warmth..."got to love brass"! The stock photo doesn't do the drum any justice...everything's black nickel & stunning! Again, this drum is worth the money...sound, quality,...a drum that delivers!!

I have always Played Ludwig, and you get what you pay for. If you've ever considered buying the black beauty but the price turned you away, this is your drum! I have the 6.5X14 and It was worth every penny and waiting the month it was back ordered. Wonderful Black nickle over Brass shell, nice low tones, with that unmistakable brass pop.
