Comments about Ludwig Carl Palmer Venus Snare Drum:

This snare drum is very well to do! It is all brass of course and it is 3.7" deep yet this snare is heavier than my LM402 and just as heavy as my Yamaha Brass 5" snare. The rims on the Venus are nice and thick and deep for some good rim action. The response too is nice and quick being a 3.7! This has become one of my best snare drums! Sounds heavy and big and rich yet it's quick reasponse makes it nice and punchy if that makes sense. Lately I have been focusing on my 5" snare drums as opposed to 6 1/2 because I have come to like the action and response you get with 5". This 3.7 is very quick and interesting. This drum lacks nothing in the sound department too! I still have the factory heads on it. Doesn't make any difference you can always put what you want on it. Carl Palmer signs a label inside the shell for whatever that's worth. That's all cool and stuff I guess, but I bought this thing to play and it sure does! If Ludwig stops making that snare I can picture people really trying to jump to find one. This is a good quick heavy snare good for any application from what I can see. I really like the deep rims. I happen to buy mine from my 5 star drum shop here in town after I sat down with it. But for years I have done business here at Musiciansfriend so it would have been easy to buy it here as well.

Comments about Ludwig Carl Palmer Venus Snare Drum:

As pointed out in other reviews, the snare mechanism does not cleanly disengage because of the bottom snare hoop not having a deep enough opening on the snare gate, thereby causing a the snares to rattle loosely against the bottom head.

If you check out Carl Palmer playing the drum on YouTube ,he is constantly having to adjust and play with the snare action.
