Maple snare drum for this price??? Are you kidding me?!?! Buy this drum!!! Sounds great. Tunes well. I've owned it for a year and play live with it 2 to 3 nights a week. Never had a problem. Sounds great at all volume levels and has a wide tuning range.
These snares have a beautiful color, but the drum itself is JUNK. I took it out of the box and it sounded like crap, so I tried to tune it and 8 of the 16 lugs stripped, and I didn't even have them tight. The hardware is cheap junk. I recommend a Yamaha Stage Custom snare instead. It is in the same price range and WAAAYYY better. When I tried to loosen the lugs, they broke!! Do not spend money on this snare.
This is a decent, legit wood snare. It's a great price for wood of this quality. I love the round, ringing tones and the green sparkle is just awesome and shiny. I put a remo emperor X head on it and tuned it up TIGHT. It sounds great! Even the stock head alone sounds good and dosnt need to be tuned that high for a good sound. Definitly a good deal for a drummer on a budget. Ludwig is always on point with this kind of thing! GREAT SNARE!
I just ordered the Centennial Kit about 3 months ago. I have owned many kits over the past 12 years and it was by far the best. While looking up snare drums, I was really suprised to find that this snare cost so little. I just got rid of 4 other snare drums (from new maple to vintage COB) and I'm thinking about ordering another for a back up (I tend to bust heads a lot). I changed the heads with an Evans HD Dry topside and an Evans Hazy 300 bottom. I also replaced the snares with Fat Cats - the ones with the adjustable center section. It sings. I have been having to tune it a bit lately but I think it has to do with the below freezing temps and snow on the ground. When it was warm, it didn't do it. I have officially changed brands to Ludwig. Great snare. I plan on ordering another.
nice sounding, amazing with new snare wires. The screws on the inside keep coming out... the buttplate won't tighten all the way, you need new washers. My throw off broke in four months... i need to get a new part. the lug casings, on screw keeps coming out, and falling into the drum and rattling around. idk what to do with it. i love it though...
So, i was so excited to buy this snare. with its beautiful silver sparkle finish, and amazing big sound i loved it. after four months, the throw off broke... i was really dissapointed in the ludwig hardware, i figured it was just a fluke. well, i was sent a new one, in two months it broke, i was really dissappointed... i ordered a new one, and the one they sent under warranty didnt even fit my drum... now i was really mad. because of all thsi trouble they decided to send me a new one. all in all, it is a great sounding drum in my opinion with the right heads and snares. i use remo vintage emperor on top, hazy ambassador on bottom, and a puresound custom pro brass 20 strand wires. i get a nice deep rich full tone out of this drum, or a nice tight pop, depending on the day, and what i want. i love it.
I was extremely excited to buy the 6.5x13" drum for such an unheard-of deal. Whenever I receive a new piece of gear, I always thoroughly check it out. GOOD THING I DID. The thin plies of maple were literally coming unglued! The issue was most prevalent around the snare stainer on the bottom bearing edge, but even new-in-box the drum had a 1/2mm separation of plies, enough to put a guitar pick in! I owned a Ddrum Dominion snare and I didn't like the powder-coated hardware, but if you're looking for a cheap 13" drum, get the Ddrum instead of this as its shell was 100% solid. BEWARE of Ludwig's quality control, I am certainly a very disappointed customer.
