I bought these drums (less hardware) last year.I teamed them up with the pearl DR-80 rack, and use a tom suspension mount so the 14" tom can sing. I'm will be forever amazed at the tone and claity of each and every drum in this kit. Every sound tech that miked this kit says the same thing...."Those are the easiest drums to mix becuase I didn't have to turn them up or play with e.q. to make them sound good." Even if my drumming skills are marginal, the drums sound so good no one notices. Thank you "Ludwig" for re- introducing the world to this world class drum set. B.A.D. drummer
These are a good set of drums. The big sizes rock, but it is out of date when it comes to features that could easily make it sound even better. Mounting a tom on a snare stand just kills the sound. Plus the amount of holes could easily be reduced. I recommend a rock sized Pro-M Mapex set, the kick is only 24 inch, but is 18 deep compared to 14. The sound is much cleaner. Overall though if you want a strong vintage sound great drums.
If you want to sound like the greatest rock drummmer of all time, this is a great place to start. I also suggest purchasing a set of 2002 series Paiste cymbals, with the 15" sound edge hats. Rock on, Bonham!
My friend owns this kit, and I have used it a few times, and from what I can see it is a good kit. It sounds great, and looks almost as good as it sounds, but I give it an overall 8, because of the lack of mufflers on the drums, and because it's not as good as my Rogers kit.
Just got them home. Went from a DW jazz set with 20 x 14 bass drum to this! Always wanted a set like this but would have been too expensive to build it from component drums. I got a special bonus with my set too. They were tuned up and played by John Bonham's drum tech at a special drum clinic. I immediately measured the tuning with a tama drum watch so I can always return to this tuning.
This set delivers, period. The sound alone resonates with authority and keeps a driving metronome in the music my band is playing, and by no means is it timid. It also compliments the music with its classic sound, thumbs way up!!!!!
Although I dont own the complete kit, I use to own a 18" Classic floor tom. The tom produced more low-end explosion than anything I have ever heard. A friend owns this kit (complete) and sounds unbelievable. Toms are articulate, base drum is deep and punchy. The drums tunning range is also great. Thin, maple shells are of the highest quality. This one's a no-brainer, folks. I would gladly pay more.
I don't own this set and haven't even had the chance to play one yet but I think this is the one a lot of drummers have been waiting for! I play a vintage 1970 Ludwig maple 4 piece w/ 24" bass and know the value of playing on a "big" set with no toms mounted to the bass. It's all about resonance. Be prepared because playing in this configuration is a little trickier as small tom is not at 12 0'clock over the bass. Bass drum triplets get a lot easier on a big head when you get the feel and hit it on the rebound. The reality is you probably won't find a vintage set in good condition for a realistic price so go for the next best thing. This is is it. Touche Ludwig!
This is my 2nd set of ludwigs since I first started playing drums.I really like the wood finish, mine are the cherry.Bass drum really sounds good with no muffling.I put remo batter heads on top and the thin diplomats on bottom of the toms,at times I just run 1 floor tom.Great sounding kit even better in a live sounding room. Have owned them a year now.Seen Bonzo live in 1975 and these sound real close.I would suggest this kit to anybody wanting a rich DEEP sounding kit.
This is easily the best drumkit I have ever played. I bought this in March 05 and have used it in the studio and several live shows. It is worth every penny that I paid. Super quality, awesome sound and heavy duty. Many drummers come to me after shows and ask about the kit, drooling over it. I have played kits from most every brand and have owned a few Tama and Pearl sets. This one is my favorite, I feel like Bonzo sitting back there. I do use the Larz Ulrich Tama Bell Brass snare with it since I have had great results in studio and live with it. I highly recommend this kit to anyone looking for serious quality and huge sound, you get exactly what you pay for. Hear it on the myspace link at floozieband . com
