Suitable in any environment, this steel snare is sure to get attention.
The Ludwig Jim Riley Signature Snare Drum combines the best elements of his favorite drums in one, reliable workhorse. Noted clinician and Rascal Flatts Drummer Jim Riley has always relied on a variety of Ludwig snares to get the job done.
The Riley signature snare boasts a 1.5mm stainless steel shell that produces plenty of projection and snap, while its 8"-depth lends the balanced warmth of a wood drum. Ornamented with a laser-engraving that is true to Riley's roots, the snare drum's visual brilliance is complemented by black nickel tube lugs and die-cast hoops.
"This drum has been tested from Nashville studios to the arena stage and sounds fantastic every step of the way." - Jim Riley
Incredibly deep, full tone emanates from this fatty!

Comments about Ludwig Jim Riley Signature Steel Snare Drum:
You can tune it tight and have it sensitive and jazzy; or go for the loose classic rocker. I have dozens of Ludwig snares from 60s Pioneers or Bronze Super-sensitives, to New Legacies. This is a great go-to snare that will cover a wide range of gigs. I'm currently using it with a 70s stainless steel kit and it matches up well with a 28" bass and 22" tom or will fit in with a BOP set-up. I have 3 Black Magic snares: Brass 100th anniversary 6.5x14, Brass 7x13 and this Jim Riley. 2 of three had one warped rim. The first Ludwig drums I've ever bought that didn't tune up right out of the box. Also the only ones not from NC or Chicago. Not really a problem, Ludwig promptly shipped me new rims that tuned up perfectly. As always, excellent product, outstanding service. I don't know how the heads are that come on the drums. I always replace them with Ludwig coated medium batter and thin snare-side. It seems trendy to use other heads but I think the profile of the Ludwig heads matches up perfectly with the bearing edges on their snares. Great snare. Sort of a stainless coliseum.
