Improve your chops with this fun and versatile drummer's practice tool.

This Ludwig P4 Practice Pad was designed by world-renowned drummer Pat Petrillo and features three playing levels and four playing surfaces that provide a variety of feels, sounds, and responses. This unique and versatile design will improve a drummer's overall hand technique, accuracy, and coordination by providing multiple playing surfaces on the same side of the drum pad.

The Ludwig P4 practice drum pad fits neatly on top of your snare drum, table top, or into any snare-stand basket. It also has an 8mm thread, so it can be attached to a cymbal stand. Each pad has a unique sound and feel, corresponding to the playing characteristics of different drums and cymbals. Pat Petrillo has been successfully using the P4 for practice and teaching at Drummers Collective in New York, and now everyone has the opportunity to experience the feel and dexterity development that the Ludwig P4 drum pad can offer.

The large black pad that comprises the bottom level has the feel of a snare-style practice pad and the blue surface on the left side of the second level feels more like a hi-hat. The right side of the second level is soft—like a floor tom—and the upper tier resembles the feel of a ride.

"I wanted to replicate the feel of moving around the drum set when I practice on a pad," says drummer Pat Petrillo. "The P4 allows me to really work on independence techniques."

Pat is recognized as one of today's most accomplished and versatile drummers, having performed and recorded with a wide variety of artists from many genres of music including Gloria Gaynor, Patti LaBelle, Dee-Lite, Patti Smythe, and Glen Burtnik, as well jazz guitarist Ed Hamilton, and most recently the world music group Oko Jumu.

Comments about Ludwig P4 Practice Pad:

If I'd had this when I was a kid I'd be a lot better now... Got this last week and really love it. It's fun to play and kind of addictive. The fit and finish is very good. I don't see any problems with glue or decals as described in another review. It's a quality product. I would like if the red cymbal pad wasn't quite as hard and loud as it somewhat defeats the purpose of a quiet practice session. It's ok though. I'd gladly paid more if it had come with a suitable practice stand as a regular 8mm cymbal stand is too tall to adjust down to chair height and I didn't have another snare stand, etc. Also, this pad is 16'' wide so if you plan on using a snare stand you better check if yours will open that much. I ended up cutting down a stand and using a DW Dogbone to make it work, which it does nicely... But yes, this practice pad is outstanding for increasing your coordination and chops. The rubber has a much better feel and rebound than a traditional practice pad and sounds great. The snare portion has several sweet spots in it to offer various tones and you can get rim shots in as well. This would make a great addition to any drummer's practice routine.

P4 stimulates mobility and precise targeting

Comments about Ludwig P4 Practice Pad:

Despite that the idea was phenominal, it has just some minor finishing to the product. Also patent which is on pending, I am not surprised some other brand may try to present the same idea with better finishing. But other than that, it suktes my needs just fine!
The 3 level, multi rubber surface practice pad is certainly a good concept. It motivates and makes interesting practicing on a pad. The different levels brings more effort to the individual compared to your single level practice pad. It has made my practice more sound variety & much more physical effort moving from level to level.
The finishing of the product wasn't satisfying. You get dried glue here and there. The logo is not durable, in my first week already missing part of the logo. They probably should at least have the logo engraved or like some other pads placing a different color rubber as the logo. Other than that it functions well, but funstion isn't the only thing to keep you interested in practicing, it also the appearance, so if you don't mind having stray dried glue here and there, this is the perfect practice tool.
You pay a reasonable price for 3 levels & 4 different rubbers to mimic different surfaces! Definitely a great deal!

Comments about Ludwig P4 Practice Pad:

          Seriously a great product.
This practice pad AWESOME. It has 4 different "levels" with the red being a hard rubber almost wood-like, the blue being a little softer, the black being like your standard feel and the grey is the softest and my personal favorite because it's quietest.
Well built and very decent quality.
sure it costs more than most pads but its well worth the extra cash its almost like 4 pads in 1.

Comments about Ludwig P4 Practice Pad:

This is the best, most innovative drum pad ever, and I own a few. I don't even use the others anymore. WELL worth the money, because I now have 4 options of rebounds instead of one. The levels really help my movement and accuracy. Thanks, Pat, and Ludwig, for a great addition to the practice pad market
