This kit delivers the classic Bonham sound. The bass drum is huge with alot of punch and just the right amount of resonance ( with a felt strip across the center of the batter head). The floor toms are also huge but very tuneable. The rack tom on the suspension mount has a nice tone and resonance. I fitted the rack and floor toms with clear g2's with one piece of moongel on each. Great set for the money. I actually play these more than my maple classics.
Excellent sound for the money. The hardware is a little cheaper looking than I'd expect from Ludwig, but overall its sturdy. it is a re-issue kit so the hardware looks sorta 70's style. I upgraded my kit with Gibraltar hardware. The single bass pedal is perfect for a drum this big. I personally tried a double pedal system on the bass and hated it. You're pushing so much air volume through the 26", the batter head bounced a little too much for me with the double pedal and I found I couldn't get the same kind of speed as on a smaller bass. This is just my personal preference of course, but I'd stick with the single bass pedal. I replaced the 26" with a Remo pinstripe and got a great sound response from it. I left the bass as is - in other words; hollow, with no muffling, to get the sound from the drum. Its awesome. The floor toms are cannons. My mounted tom came with the suspension mount system which I used for a little while. It works fine and all, but I felt like I was sitting too far from the drum. I switched to a snare holder for the 13" tom and it works like a champ!! The snare is deep and loud with just the right amount of ring to it. The hi-hat is fine too. No complaints. Overall a nice, loud kit. When I gig with it, I rarely if ever mic the drums unless I'm recording. If you're looking for that original heavy, thick, 70's, John Bonham sound....this is the kit.
