OVERVIEW

The scream of birch meets the punch of walnut.

The Armory Series Exterminator Snare from Mapex is all about mass impact. The birch/walnut hybrid shell has a broad spread and a powerful attack that your bandmates will feel in their gut.

The SONIClear bearing edge (standard on all Armory wood shells) allows all drumheads to sit flat and tune effortlessly and respond with a stronger fundamental pitch. Precision-tooled solid steel Armory Tube Lugs deliver greater tuning accuracy and shell stability while giving the drum an elegant, modern appearance. The shell features an ebony stain over figured wood.

Comments about Mapex Armory Series Exterminator Snare Drum 14 x 6.5:

I've been playing drums for 30 years and this is the best snare I've had the pleasure to use. Got it today, changed out the heads to Evans (just my preference) and tuned it up. What an amazing sound! It sounds like a pistol being shot when you hit it. I love this drum!Add the fact that it looks so beautiful and it's the perfect snare.

Comments about Mapex Armory Series Exterminator Snare Drum 14 x 6.5:

I recently got a chance to play around with the snares in the Armory series. The wood Armory series (not just the snares) have the new SONIClear bearing edge. You can check out on line what this is, but in a nutshell here's what it does (bear with the background):

Evans came out with their Level 360 technology which re-shaped the collar of the head so that it will sit level on the bearing edge. Because of this, the Evans heads will get a tone when they are merely finger tight - there is a very even tension so that it is easy to tune. With Remo, Aquarian or other heads, the collar hits the outside of the drum making it sit lop-sided so that you have to tighten it quite bit before you can get a tone, and often will have wrinkles on one side.

What the SONIClear edge does is to move the contact point in. What Evans did by changing the head, Mapex has done by changing the bearing edge. On drums with the SONIClear edge the Evans heads no longer have a fit advantage. Every head will fit the Mapex drums the way that only Evans fits every other mfg drum.

It's a great idea and works very well. Mapex had done it again. Bravo Mapex.
