This snare is amazing. The 2.5mm hoops lock the heads in place. She does not loose her tone. You can crank her up tight and she will squeal for you. Or you can loosen her up and she'll give you that deep hum! The snare is one of the best snares in the world. Its beautiful. I gig often and either its highly complimented or asked to be bought. I play funk hip hop gospel jazz rock and metal, this snare is not expensive for nothing! You are really getting your moneys worth with this one, only advice, put an evans g2 on her the go for it. From rim shots to ghost notes, she's ready!

i havent played for as long as most people but i have played a lot of different drums sets and find that the black panther snare drum line by mapex is one of the best out there, if not the best. i happen to have gotten this drum as a free gift along with my 8 peice pro m maple set. it is, like the rest of them, a great sounding snare drum. the only thing that i didnt like, and that made me really upset is the size of it. it was just small enough not to be used as the default snare drum on my set, yet it was just big enough not to be used as a mini snare!!! so basicly if i were you and i wanted a really good snare drum, get a better size than this one. other than that, i actually believe that for the sound you get, the price is pretty accurate.

Mapex Black Panther Special Snare

By drummin in the sun

from Southern California! :-)

I owned this snare drum for a couple weeks played it / tuned it everyday. It doesnt really "pop" all that much, there is not much "crack" to it either. The construction is of good quality thats for sure. But it just doesnt sound all that great, not like you'd expect from a 12" drum... I thought itd be more like a piccolo, it was sort of "boxy" and "flat" even when tuned high. Looks CAN be deceiving! I would recommend NOT to buy this, especially for the price!

Amazing drum!

It is hands down the best drum I have ever owned. The sound of the snare is decent with the stock head, but I replaced it with a Remo coated Emperor and it sounds amazing. With a little tuning adjustment, the snare picks up te high pitched crack of a piccolo, but still retains some of the thickness that makes it the perfect snare at a relatively good price. Don't waste your time on expensive custom vented OC snares. Buy this snare! It's amazing.

Second snare smash steal!

Lookin' for that second snare to round out your kit? Holy geez, is this one a heck of a deal. Tune it any way you want, it sounds good. Being a small head and a deeper shell, it produces a tone that you can't argue with. I prefer to tune mine up pretty high and use it as my aux snare, but you could easily use it as your main.

I bought this snare a few months ago at my local music store. They pulled out this snare and it was love at first sight. This snare sounds amazing, especially when cranked up high. Overall, great quality, great sound, great price. Buy this snare, you won't be disappointed.

a great snare!

By TheIronCobra511

from USA

I have to tell you I was a little bit sceptical when I was going to buy this snare, but let me tell you, I could not be happier! This is an amazing product, and if you are thinking about buying a new snare this is the one to buy. It sounds amazing, the only two problems I have with it, is that 1. The "throw off" that sets if you want your snares on or off the snare, comes loose every once in awhile. 2nd, and this was the fault of the guy I bought it from, after 3 days of play, the head cracked, it was too tight. But other than those things, this is a perfect snare!

This drum is perfect for snare work. It is not meant to be used on a set, but by itself it is amazing.

Mapex Black Panther

This Black Panther snare was my first buy from Black Panther. I was in the store and this was on a stand. The clerk at the store was telling how good this snare was and tested it out. It sounded great! I bought it that day. And now that I've had it for like 4 months, I still love it. My drum teacher likes it a lot and it is my favorite snare. The only thing I don't like about it is the lugs loosen just a bit over time, but if you keep a close ear on it, you'll be fine. Overall, this is a really good snare.

When first saw this snare i was a little suspicious, like "too good to be true"..but i took a chance,When i opened the box my eyes opened up!this is a beautifully put together snare..the quality is amazing, and the looks are phenomenal!it sounds a little too high pitched when you first play it, but what would you expect with a stock head on it..but thats just my opinion ,word of advice: The snare sounds great but it sounds even better with another headBUY IT!
