Mapex Horizon HX 5-Piece Shell Pack w/ Free 8x7 tom  

The cymbal mount in the center of mounted tom bracket is a great feature.

Very sturdy mounting systems and flawless coverings.

This shell pack more than exceeced my expectations.

This Mapex Horizon HX shell pack sounds fantastic with a few modifacations. I changed out all of the batter heads with Evans ec2's on the tom's, Evans HD Genera on the snare and Remo powerstroke Pro on the bass. This is the bass drum sound I have been looking for! The imported Remos work great for the resonant heads. I did add a 6" port to the bass head. The wrap on this kit is flawless (crystal sparkle) the pictures do not do it justice. The metal bass hoops also have the wrap material on the center sections of them giving them a more finished look than in the photos. The buying experience was top of the line as usual from Musicians Friend. 

I have always wanted a drum kit, and now that I have my own house, I figured the time was right! I bought this kit about 6 months ago from my local music shop and I absolutely love it! I did quite a bit of research on drum kits of all types before I bought it, but, as a novice, when I went to the drum store and played around on the kits, I couldn't really hear the difference between the higher end kits and the cheap entry ones. But now that I have put some serious hours on this kit as well as some of my friends higher end (and lower end) kits, I can tell you: this thing sings. You absolutely will not find a better kit for the money. Mapex is the Toyota of drum kits. You won        t break the bank, and the thing will last forever. If I could go back I would have bought the shell pack only and then just picked up a hardware pack elsewhere. The Mapex hardware that came with my kit was decent, but the cymbals were terrible. I have already thrown the cymbals that came with this pack in the trash, and I am really mad at myself for paying extra for them in the first place. Seriously the dude at the pawn shop told me they were worthless.     Also, the pedal that comes with it is not great. So yeah, get the shell pack. Go ahead and order a set of Evans G2 coated        s to throw on there too!
