Mapex VX delivers some of the best value for the money in drums today.
The Mapex VX 5-Piece Standard Drum Set includes a matching maple and basswood shell snare drum. Toms include the non-penetrating Mapex off-the-shell ITS system. All VX drums are equipped with Remo drum heads.
VX Series kits also include a padded drummer's throne, double-braced hardware with memory locks, and an instructional DVD hosted by Mapex international clinician, Dom Famularo.
Every VX component is now finished with eight hand-rubbed coats of high-gloss lacquer. This unique finishing process gives the drum a beautifully deep, high gloss, protective shine.
Maple bass drum hoops are color-matched and secured via low profile claw hooks. Mapex's low mass lugs are secured to the shell via only one point of penetration. Fewer holes in the drum shell means less vibratory interruption, resulting in truer tone and unimpeded resonance.

My dad bought this set for me as a birthday gift. The heads that came with the kit are pretty pitiful, put the toms sound excellent with new heads. The stands and pedals are built very well. The only problem I have with the kit is the bass drum. I doesn't have the nice low end punch I'm looking for that a comparably priced Tama Rockstar has.
Experience in drums has led me to believe two things, when in doubt for hardware...go pearl, when in doubt for shells...go mapex. These drums are magical...i have mine in plasma yellow(a colour not displayed here) and they look interesting to say the least. The isolated tom mounts are a gem...the shells themselves are great sounding with lots of low end, the hardware can take a lot, the heads are pretty bad but when have stock heads been good, slap some coated EC2's and an EMAD on them and they sound great, the resonant heads are fine...no great need to change those, the bass pedal is fine for a beginner but i didnt use it much because i put my eliminators on straight away(another great buy.Basically what im sayinng is that if you dont have much dough and want a good drumset, this is it, if you have more dough though, try buying a mapex pro m, thats a beautiful set.
