I got the 16" and it sounds great! It's perfect for what i play. Hardcore metal. I wont buy any other crash cymbal. This is simply the best deal considering the price and the sound. The cymbal has a really aggressive and explosive attack, perfect for banging on after mowing down those epic fills or for thrashing on, a nice sustain, a sinister dark tone, and best of all, it won't blow a chunk out of your budget. Trust me I know all about that...
Get this cymbal and you WILL not be disappointed, unless you're one of those darn critiques...

Definitely a BEGINNER cymbal. heavy 18 inch Crash... might be better as a ride cymbal.

I read multiple reviews for this cymbal. Even drummers that have played for years had said it was worth giving it a try. Some went as far as saying it wasn't JUST a beginner cymbal, and that it could be be used by anyone at any level...
I've been playing hard-rock/ alternative rock / heavy metal for over a decade. I put this cymbal right on my drumset, played through practice with it, and was very displeased. It is a heavy cymbal.
I bought the 18 inch Crash. It cannot be hit repeatedly on it's edge- to get that washy sound that is synonymous with most all rock music. It takes each hit with a dull metal sound underneath. Individual, separate hits have the same effect.
However, the bow and bell of the cymbal are bright. Again, I bought the 18 inch crash... I might use it as a ride cymbal.
Goodluck.

Comments about Meinl HCS Crash Cymbal:
For the money the best cymbal I ever purchased in my 50+ years drumming. Not only is it a good sounding crash when you need to really lay into it but I have been also using it more and more as a light, bright ride. The live recorded sound is good with clarity and a good fairly fast crash and decay. It also has a bright bell sound.I've always believed it's not so much what you pay for a cymbal but what you can get out of it. Every cymbal has it's own characteristics and this one has surpassed anything I was expecting from a lower end cymbal. Excellent choice for someone on a limited budget that needs either a crash or a ride. It is the first MEINL cymbal I've ever owned but it will not be my last (Lord willing)

Comments about Meinl HCS Crash Cymbal:
I am an experienced musician, but his was my first ever cymbal to use. I am in a small acoustic 4 peice band. I recently started playing the jdimbe while the other guys diversify our stringed instruments. I decided to buy this cymbal on a whim, to allow us to have a little more fun with our music. Since I am using a hand drum, I use the cymbal in the same fashion. I paired it with the Sound Percussion Double-Braced Boom Stand and it reaches over the drum perfectly. We've only used it for one gig so far, but it has worked great!

Comments about Meinl HCS Crash Cymbal:
After breaking my 16" MCS Crash I needed a replacement quick and didn't have a lot to spend. I was pleased to get this for the price and as soon as I put it on my set and started playing it, I was disappointed. It's too flat and just sounds like it's made from aluminum...

Comments about Meinl HCS Crash Cymbal:
This is a great cymbal!! I think this should be a crash-ride however this cymbal is not good for riding while crashing. I bought the 16" and have been playing it for a month and use it at gigs and it holds up very well. Other than that I would definately reccomend the 16" along with the rest of the HCS series. HCS has a dark and low tone. I play metal, rock, christian rock, punk, and pop and it works great for all those genres. Enjoy your new Meinls!!
