This is the best possible buy for a ride/crash cymbal. The price is great, the cymbal quality is top notch, and it sounds like a name brand. I've 26 yrs xp in drummin and only buy Name brand cymbals for the obvious quality reasons. I've been playing the same set of zildjans (7 cymbal set)for 16 yrs and I wanted an extra cymbal for my backup drum kit. This is a great buy. Don't pass it up if you are looking for a good sounding ride/crash!!!! I play all types of music in many different bands from speed metal to folk rock and this cymbal sounds great with them all and have no problem playing live and recording with it.

I've always been impressed by AA Meinl's higher quality lines, and I figured a lower model would help the wallet as well as add a nice sound to my kit. I play mostly punk/hardcore and tend to break crashes pretty regularly, so sheet cymbals are a "good enough" option for me. This is probably the worst cymbal I've ever purchased. It's quiet and has no crash or ride qualities, minus a decent bell that I won't ever use. If you play quieter music I wouldn't even recommend it, as it has no swelling or dynamic quality. I spent 20 smackaroos less on a Zildjian ZBT Rock Crash and don't regret it.

Comments about Meinl HCS Crash/Ride Cymbal:

I bash around playing Classic Rock style, kind of goon-like as far as technical skill goes. I'm not a "touchy-feely" player, and the bands I play in don't require that. The cymbal has a great rock crash sound. Are there better cymbals? Yes, but you'll pay a LOT more. And for the money, these can't be beat. These by far are the best "low priced" cymbals that I've heard. We all have heard the "garbage can lid" types out there, these aren't like that at all. Again, it's a great rock crash for the cabbage. I can't comment yet on the durability since I haven't had them that long. They're worth the chance, I bought 2 18" crashes.

Sounds good as a light, dry ride. Pleasant mellow crash. Pingy bell. Super entry level
hobby or pro practice studio applications.

Comments about Meinl HCS Crash/Ride Cymbal:

I have this cymbal, and use it like it should - as a crash/ride. I have to say I love it, but I miss two things that I get with my Paiste PST5s that I don't get here: the pingy and washy feeling of my ride, and the explosive attack from my crash. This beauty tends to blend them that gives a unique sound that I like occasionaly, but in other times, when using it for just one of the 2 purposes in the name, I find that it lacks, but this should be expected from a middle-quality crash ride. Overall, good job Meinl!

The title of this cymbal is misleading!! This is definately a ride. Not a crash. It has a low and dark tone and a bright bell. It somewhat sounds like rain, which to me is what a ride should sound like. I got the 18" and couldn't be happier!! Enjoy your new MEINL ride!!
