    Comments about Meinl Kessing:

I don't have a djembe, but this thing sounded pretty good on my darbuka. It's VERY dry sounding as noted, and not typical of 'metal' sounds - it makes very short sounds that are like a metallic version of rustling/crunching leaves, and can replace maracas, cabasas, and the like in regular band settings. Shaken in the hand like a rattle, it can do wobble board/white noise type sounds, and when tapped or hit can do a decent snare sound. It's not aluminum but is about as light - probably some kind of recycled metal, which works great for sounds like this.

I've been abusing mine for a few weeks and the two rivets don't show any sign of loosening. You'll really want to wrap the end of the stick with tape or use a nail file on it before attaching it to your drum due to the sharp corners.

      Comments about Meinl Kessing:

Would not recommend. These kessings are made well, but they are way too large. The solid metal design means you need to wrap /tape the ends to avoid the risk of damaging your drum.

      Comments about Meinl Kessing:

A dry rattle. Dry is right. I bought this because it was cheap, and I just wanted to check it out.It sounded different than what I thought. I was expecting something bright. I'm not disappointed by the sound, though. A mellow rattle. I now know it's made out of Aluminum, and that will indeed explain the, dim?, sound. You can somewhat control the degree of rattle, but there is no way to mute it. In other words, no matter where you hit on the djembe, it will rattle. I figured as much. However, most string tuned djembes, you can remove it quickly. I only bought one. Two or three might produce a better sound overall. If you participate in a lot of drum circles, this rattle might be used to add variety to the circle. However, I can see for a single player, this constant sound might become annoying.I like it, and I would indeed recommend this to friends.

      Nice Add On

      Comments about Meinl Kessing:

This really adds a lot to the sound of my djembe. It gives you a nice crashing sound as the metal rings clang against the metal plate. You could probably make something similar with some key rings and metal, but for the price why go through the trouble.
