    Comments about Meinl Mini Timbales:

I am entirely new to drums and timbales. For a beginner, this is a great set. I think they'd attach to a drum outfit, but I put it on a desk top and it works well. It's a good introduction to timbales. You can imagine that you are Tito Puente! Joel

      Comments about Meinl Mini Timbales:

Here's my review of both the Tama Mini Timbales & the Meinl Mini Timbales. Depending on the sound you are going for, the Tama set is a better deal since they come with a universal clamp, and take up less space. The Meinl set sound more like Timbales. The Tama set sounds like Roto Toms to me (I owned a full set of Rotos for many years). The cost of the Meinl's are around the same but you need to buy two universal clamps separately, which is another expense. I also don't like that you need a special wrench to tune the Meinl's. For my purposes, I'm happy with both sets, although if you are going for a traditional latin sound, you may want to spring for a full size set of Timbales. The solo was on the fly, so it's nothing I worked out in advance. It's to hear the sound of the drums.
