It also features two striking surfaces, high-and low pitched, that are joined on a special resonating box which projects the sound forward.

Comments about Meinl Professional Bongo Cajon:

This bongo cajon has a clean, loud sound. Because the projection port is outward, the player doesn't hear the full sound that an audience or mic hears.

      Great sounds on recordings.

But the sweet spot on each surface is very small. While playing fast they are easy to miss. And there is no sound from the rims. This was the biggest disappointment for me. You have to strike the heads 1 1/2 inches in from the rim to get any sound at all, this makes the already small playing surfaces even smaller.

I guess I was expecting a truer bongo playing experience. Im also a lefty, so not being able to turn them due to the port is a bummer.. but I knew this before purchasing.. just sayin.

Comments about Meinl Professional Bongo Cajon:

Provides rich, earthy tones and is quite responsive. This cajon sounds great in smaller venues and pairs nicely with djembes and shekeres. The only downside is that, b/c of its solid wood design, the drum heads cannot be replaced. Hey, it's a Meinl cajon - take care of it, and this won't matter.
