Interesting improvements over a standard box-shaped cajon, this T-shaped instrument separates the low/bass and high-snare sections of the drumming surface, which has been moved to the top instead of the front. Mine arrived with left and right "ears" with identical snare sounds, which may be useful for moving one's hands less, but I opted for greater variety by custom tuning mine: the bottom of each ear is held on by six screws, so I opened both sides, removed the snare assembly from one side, and attached it to the bottom of the port on the other side, so one ear is a "high slap" and the other ear a "double-snare." Thus three distinct sound regions. Also, I put layers of gaffer's and gorilla tape as a round disk on the bass area (center of the playing surface) to lower the bass tone and pad the center-strikes a tiny bit. Also removed the port resonator tube on the now high slap side in hopes of raising the frequency, with little change. Been playing with small acoustic ensembles in small rooms and it's been great.
P.S. I wouldn't sit on it.

I returned it and exchanged it for the earlier, cheaper model (Meinl Slaptop Makah-Burl). It doesn't have as full of an acoustic sound and only has snares on one side, but it's much easier to mic with less feedback. If you want the choice of playing softly or with brushes, none of these Meinl Slaptop models are loud enough to use with a live band without microphone(s). I use 2 Sennheiser e-904s, one at the bass port, and one covering the playing surface, and out of the PA, it sounds like a little drumset.

Comments about Meinl Turbo Slap-Top Cajon:

This Cajon works well with me because I'm so tall. Sitting on a regular Cajon feels off. The Slap Top sits in my lap, and I don't fell like I'm licking my knees when I play.

I find this little cajon to be just what l was looking for.lt is far more comfortable than a reglar cajon.turbo or not you will not get that louder and deeper tone you get from a regular sized cajon.but it does have pretty good sound of it's own.you can mic it and eq the tone,it sound crisp and pretty punchy.

really enjoy playing cajon along with others playing a box guitar. easy to carry around, can play lap style or tilt it long ways between legs. the more you play it the more you get use to location of different sounds. really great when amplified with mics. I enjoy this lap style verse the sit on style. can''t go a day without playing it if only for 15 minutes.

Comments about Meinl Turbo Slap-Top Cajon:

Bought this for my grandson as a replacement for another similar styled cajon that was absent of sound, soul, and vibe, although the sunburst finish was lovely. This one is lovely, the walnut is beautiful and the fit and finish are outstanding. The real test, was the first thump, nice, low, rumbling, full. Outstanding. I've no doubt that the grandson will enjoy this cajon more than the first one. Highly recommended.

Comments about Meinl Turbo Slap-Top Cajon:

I purchased this cajon back in December, after getting the original slap top last summer. What can I say? I've got the fever. This one is soooo responsive. I love the fact that all the ports are facing forward. You really only need 1 mike for this. Bass response is huge, especially if you stand up and set the cajon on a solid wooden stand. Oh my is it BOOMY. I've also accessorized this with a wooden castanet and jingle castanet. I rounded things off with the foot shaker and foot tamborine for when I sit to play. Great set up.

I got this to play at church with the band in a small sanctuary where stage drums were just too loud. This works perfect and sounds really good. I love that I can change the tones to make it sound awesome no matter what we are playing. It's so easy to travel with and carry around as it takes up no space. I am really enjoying these and can't wait to get a mic to make these sound even better.

This Cajon is fantastic because it allows you to sit on your favorite drum stool while playing! Not to mention your playing area is far greater because there is nothing getting in the way of your playing surface!

I think there's room in the line for a really nice all wood version.

Comments about Meinl Turbo Slap-Top Cajon:

I found myself in a position where I needed either a Cajon or a Djembe and wasn't thrilled at the prospect of either. After some searching, I stumbled upon the Meinl Turbo-Slap Top Cajon, watched the video and read the reviews and my quest was over! Comfortable to play and the high end slap is fantastic (could use a little more bottom but that can be remedied with a mic). Highly recommended!

                                    Comments about Turbo Slap-Top Cajon:

I tried the other slap-top cajon (with the single sound-hole) at the store and it really wasn't too impressive but had a nice feel being played from the top. I ordered this one instead after noticing the three sound-holes and reading about how it has snares on both sides. I play at a bi-weekly group open mic and wanted to shift from strings more into percussion. This cajon has a perfect volume range to play alongside a dozen guitar or just a single one. Also, great tones to it and a very responsive playing surface. Just watch the demonstration videos for hand and finger techniques.
