Comments about Nino Wood Djembe Drum:

I bought this as a gift for a seven-year-old child who is big for his age and strong. It has a wonderful sound and quality. I thought about getting another for a smaller child but it would be hard for anyone smaller to manage it. The plus is that he will not outgrow it; an adult could get a respectable sound out of this drum.

        Nino Wood Djembe Drum

Comments about Nino Wood Djembe Drum:

I order one based upon reviews, and ignored the head replacement issue due to the dates this is June 2011. That may have been a mistake. I contact Meinl who has never responded and this vendor who has responded 3x however, rather sure no one understand this is a 10in head, with 9.5 playing surface and 11.75 end to end across actual size that fits under the tuning hardware. Simply question? Any 11.75 is OK, e.g. the Remo synth or newskyn etc. no one understands that question -not kidding. The 11.75 that's in it is very very tight. So, consider having to deal with this and when get it prior to the 45 day return policy take it to the local store and make sure you can get a new, very thin goat skin or other hear for it. Very disappointing, in an otherwise may have been great Djembe. The revs from 06 are apparently still cogent.

        Good-Quality Non-African Djembe

Comments about Nino Wood Djembe Drum:

I have used two of these Djembes every day in a middle school for two years. The heads on ours are goatskin, and are in great shape after two years of daily use.Students who study African drumming outside of school prefer these over the larger non-African Djembes we have, even though all of them are high-quality goatskin on staved oak shells.

        Good drum, bad head!

        By Anonymous

Comments about Nino Wood Djembe Drum:

This drum is a conundrum- good quality wood, hardware, & construction at a great price. The problem is the head is cheap. It's like thick paper and can sound bad. It's the kind of head you find on those very cheap kiddy drumsets. It would seem easy to replace the head with a good quality skin- wrong! The rim is an irregular circumference that doesn't match good 10" heads. I found that out the hard way and I'm now in the process of ordering a replacement rim that will fit the replacement head. This is really adding to the cost. I bought this drum because it was smaller than the usual 12" models and it seemed to be a good deal. The head and rim problem gets in the way of its cost appeal, though. Except for the head and rim problem, this is a good drum.

Hard to find and replace skin head.

        By Laurie

Comments about Nino Wood Djembe Drum:

This djembe is great! The looks, the sound it makes and the overall I believe is more than basic. However, I am having a heck of a time finding another skin head to match the one it came with which immediately broke when I went to play the djembe. I would highly recommend this drum to anyone who wants good sound. My problem w/finding a skin head for it is really a minimal problem.
