Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Avalon 6-piece Shell Pack:

This is the fourth drum kit I have owned in the 15 years I've been drumming. I wanted to downsize from my old 8 pc ludwig birch set, and I was seeking a decent price point kit that was maple and ordered this. After reading the reviews I had kind of expected some damage or problems with it, but figured I would see wht they were like and order them. I am glad My expectations were to too high, because as predicted they seemed cheaply made, and there was damage. Here's a list of what I noticed immidiately:

        - The wrap was poorly done. The seam sticks out 3/32" to 1/8" on each drum.
        - One of my floor toms had a decent chip out the inside part of the bottom rim.
-There were 3 seperate places where the wrap was chipped andpeeling off. The worst was on one of my floor toms. it was right where the leg mount is screws on, and was about the size of my thumb!!

Also, The only thing the stock skins would be good for is punching to take out the frustration of your damaged kit.

So now that I have solidified what others have said, on to the good:

        - It sounds great! I had ordered new heads when I bought the kit, (Evans hydraulic 360 for all of them, kick and coated snare included) and they sound godly after a couple hours of tuning! I had to dampen the kick and snare quite a bit and I am still having a hard time getting a snare sound that I like. It sounds good, I just like it cranked and with minimal overtones. Dampening and fiddling helped a lot, but I am going to try a wire with more strands and a new reso skin. The kick is a cannon, and sounds like one, and the toms are very powerful, although I had a hell of a time tuning the smallest one to sound good.
-The packaging was solid, which is why I don't understand the damage.
-Looks very cool, I love the virgin snare, and with my Gibraltar stealth racks it looks super sleek and low profile.

In conclusion, I love this kit. While I was disaappointed  with the chip on the floor Tom and the garbage wrap, I was kind of expecting it, and for a great price I got myself a great sounding, and cool looking kit! But trust me, this is not an OCDP kit like when they were a small boutique drum shop, it really is just like any other run of the mill kit. Fortunately for me, I just care how it sounds, and it fits the bill for me.

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Avalon 6-piece Shell Pack:

Obviously these other people didnt get as good of a set as i did. The set sounds awesome with new heads that is one big issue that they were right about. I put Evans EC2 Frosted heads on my toms, floor toms, and snare along with an Evans 300 reso and an Evans EMAD 2 on the kick and BAM!! Time to make babies with the way this kit sings! I have had absolutely no problem with the wrap, bearing edges, or any other thing as a matter of fact. I play metal but like the sound of smaller toms as they cut through the growling guitars and bass way better than larger toms, especially when you play as intricate as i do. I have played countless numbers of kits from the biggest names out there and none compare to the sound of this one. The toms have absolutely no harsh overtones or ringing and the floor toms sound tremendous (way better than my tama starclassics) and the kick is a BEAST with no need of anything, but the EMAD 2 makes it all the better. And the snare is one of the most sensitive I have played with my Black Panther being the best with an Evans Hybrid head that CRACKKKKSSSS! All in all I love my kit I guess these other people just had bad luck with theirs. Too bad they can't enjoy theirs like mine. I know they are not custom made but they do excellent at half the price of my starclassics.

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Avalon 6-piece Shell Pack:

If you order this kit realize if there is anything wrong with it you will have to repack the entire kit and send it back only to roll the dice and possibly get another kit that has damage. There is no possibility of having individual parts exchanged or replaced. You will get no support from OCDP as these kits are from China. I would expect a bent tension rod, imperfections in the plating as is the case. The 16" floor tom I received has damage to the bearing edge. Also the black sparkle wrap is not glued down at all. As with any new mass produced kit be prepared to spend some money on quality heads, these floor toms sound like total junk with stock heads. Good deal for the money if you want to take a gamble.

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Avalon 6-piece Shell Pack:

No this is not a USA custom made OCDP Kit. But I knew that when I bought it. I bought it for being 100% maple, and having a virgin kick drum thats a cannon. I have owned several high end kits over the past 20 years, and have played on even more. This kit is good for the money, IF you know what your buying. I would compare this kit to the Mapex M series and Gretch C series. Basically a good all around kit.

Pros- Finish is awesome (Black glitter)
Cost is great for what you get. I used 15% off coupon and free shipping.
Hardware including the drum lugs, bass spurs and rims are great. It also includes the tom arm brackets that clamp to your cymbal stand or rack, It didnt say that. bonus

Cons- Some of the wrap wasnt fully secured. I pressed down and held it for a few minutes and it stayed. The inside of the drums are maple, however I would rate the wood as a grade C wood. Some spots smooth, others not. Stock drum heads are useless. I would have to say thats my biggest complaint. Do yourself a favor and order heads when ordering this kit.

Bottom line is, Kick is nice and punchy, the drums are light enough to transport but heavy enough to feel solid. They sound good with good heads. I bought these for studio use only. I payed for the sizes and the options, not the name. If your expecting a USA Custom OCDP Kit, save a few grand more and get one. This is a good all around kit, and I know it will do what I need.
