To be honest, I was very surprised by this drum. I was originally interested in the Tama SLP 13x7, but this drum had a better price point. I had never heard this drum in person before buying it and was pretty skeptical at the [$] price tag. Don't let that fool you though, this snare has everything. The shell is a 20 ply all maple shell with a finishing layer of ash, which looks even better than the pictures. The hoops are black nickel plated die cast metal, which is different than the pictures, but didn't bother me. The throw off is made by trick and again is plated in black nickel. I can't tell you how it sounds straight out of the box with stock heads, because I replaced them immediately with an Evans HD Dry and a Hazy 300. This drum honestly is close to perfect for me. I play almost every style of music. I can crank it up and it's perfect for Hip Hop, R&B, and Gospel, or I can lower it for when I play Rock, Jazz, and Latin. This drum can blend into almost any musical situation that I throw at it. Pick one up and try it out, you won't be sorry.

So far, I'm not as pleased as I hoped to be after reading the other reviews. Came with a broken snare-side-resonator head (hoop was way too loose, which allowed it to beat the flimsy head and shred it to pieces.) I was planning on replacing the heads so it wasn't a real big deal. I had an extra Remo Ambassador to use for the snare side, which is too thick to get that sizzle from the snare wires. I will be trying some other heads, searching for a better balance to the sound.
The die cast hoops are excellent, as well as the shell and the Trick throw-off. It has potential, just haven't found the sweet sound from it yet.
I'm taking it into the studio this evening to give it a real work-out... so maybe I'll have more to say afterwards.
I'm hoping by changing heads, possibly the snare wires, I'll be able to get a nice deep pop from this snare.
Orange County Drum needs to take a little more effort into their packaging... I don't mind it being sent in a plastic bag, inside a box, but don't leave the hoops so loose they beat up whatever is in the way. It could have damaged the shell!
As of right now, I would NOT recommend this snare to others... but I might change my mind after having more time with it. Needs some customizing.

Comments about Orange County Drums and Percussion Maple Snare:
Bought this snare as a gift for an extremely gifted drummer who had his snare disappear recently. I have enjoyed the other reviews and that helped me to take a chance on this particular snare.
Man! I don't play drums, but I sure can appreciate the sound of a good one. My friend loves it. He had it tweaked ot his satisfaction fairly quickly, too.

Comments about Orange County Drums and Percussion Maple Snare:
This snare is incredible. I bought it because my Tama Metalworks snare was wearing out on me and just decided to go with this one. I made a good decision, too. This snare has an incredible pop (the sound I like) and is like a gunshot when you put a rimshot on it. The sparkle and off-set lugs are just an added bonus that make the snare drum look cool. I would totally recommend this to another drummer looking for a new snare drum, this one is amazing for the price.
Note: Review written on the 14x7 silver sparkle snare. Evans Genera HD Dry batter and Hazy 300 reso.

IT was a Christmas gift for my man. He absolutely loves it! Took it to studio with him, but it had to much "pop". But live, it is the sound he's been looking for.

After playing a Yamaha Maple Custom snare for years, I was looking for a new snare to replace it..I was skeptical at first but I got it, tuned it up and was floored by the sensitivity and the sound I got out of it...OCDP has their stuff together

Comments about Orange County Drums and Percussion Maple Snare:
This is a Beautiful Drum, the hardware and the finish on the wood are very nice.I really like the cast hoops, and the throw off is excellent. I put a Remo WeatherKing on the batter side. Evans ST Dry on top andI'm really enjoying this. I may be a beginning Drummer but I'm pretty sure I got a great deal here.I have the 6x14 natural black burst.

Comments about Orange County Drums and Percussion Maple Snare:
I got this snare about a year ago. I use it regularly. I love the sound it has. Whatever style Im playing in, it sounds great. Only thing bad, I'm a heavy hitter and break a lot of sticks on this snare, and the tuning knocks out on the screws around where I hit with my left hand. But thats it!
Its a great snare I got the 6X14 one. Looks great and just captivates.

Comments about Orange County Drums and Percussion Maple Snare:
I needed another "swing" snare. I mean i needed a snare that could be tuned any type of way depending on that night's performance. You must change to your preferred heads.
Comments about Orange County Drums and Percussion Maple Snare:
As you can tell already I'm ecstatic. I still have the stock heads and wires on this drum and have only slightly tightened the heads from the in-store tuning but this drum sounds beautifull, really sensitive but you don't get a lot of buzz from hitting other drums. I can't wait to use this for solo auditions.
Offset lugs make this drum look sexy. Put that with the beautifull finish and this drum is pure eye candy. Even people who arent musicians compliment this drum. When people see it in person their first reaction is WOW!
My set is in my basement (makes me sad). But I'm taking this drum upstairs everytime I get done playing. I don't want this thing getting scratched or rusted or detuned due to moisture. I'm not gonna throw this thing down the stairs to see if it holds up. Couldn't tell you how well built it is, I just know it looks and sounds amazing.
I have a story exactly the same as another review. I went in to the local store to buy a Pork Pie. I saw the brass patina, but my eye was immediately drawn to the OCDP out of all the snare on the wall. I hit it a few times and fell in love with it. I put it on the kit that was in the store and messed around with it and ended up buying it. I never even got around to looking at the Pork Pie. The Pork Pie was notably more expensive but I will go to say if you know what your doing you can get this drum to sound just as good if not better than the high dollar snares out there.
