Less pure tone than some of this type I've played

Comments about Overseas Connection Ghana Double Gonkogwe Bell with Stick:

I've seen much nicer bells of this particular kind, with a much cleaner, purer tone, coated in black acryllic (I believe) and somewhat smaller and lighter. However, for the price, this bell is well worth it. It certainly has an authentic sound.

Comments about Overseas Connection Ghana Double Gonkogwe Bell with Stick:

I'm glad I wasn't expecting a clean, painted, factory-made bell set because I would've been disappointed. Mine came in a box with a rough stick rubberbanded to it and a wad of paper wrapped around it. The outside surface of the bells were still coated in manufacturing funk and there were a few rust spots. The inside had a coating of soot and ash. There were deep visible tool marks in the steel. Actually, the more things like this I found, the happier I got. It took on a new light, almost like I just got it right from the person that made it. Once I got the bells cleaned up (see my review of Single Ghana Bell 13" 449985) and started experimenting with beaters I really started to find the whole thing pretty cool! This is a handmade instrument and every one is different. The seams, the sizes of the bell halves and the tang welds are all different and the whole setup is loaded with overtones. Once I found out the correct way to hold it, I discovered I could easily bust 3-4 different tones between the small bell and the tang, while the larger bell yielded a nice solid lower pitched ring and a sick cowbell-type sound, with a little muting. All in all, I am absolutely delighted to have this one of a kind example of Early Iron Age bell-making technology and design. Well worth the low price!
