      OVERVIEW

A very classic hi-hat for multi-purpose application in different musical genres.

The Paiste Giant Beat Hi-Hats deliver a mellow, warm, yet brilliant sound with a hissing shimmer. They have a medium range and fairly clean mix. Other sound characteristics are light, woody, and open, paired with a well defined, soft chick-sound.

      Re-Introduction: 2005

      Original Introduction: 1967

Background: Paiste develops the Formula 602 in the late 1950's from the traditional 20% Bronze, a cymbal line rooted in Jazz and acoustic Rock 'n' roll that exhibits a cool, rich, sophisticated sound character and gains us the first wave of international notoriety - Yet the company does not rest, experiments with CuSn8 bronze alloy, and pioneers CuSn8 cymbals in 1963 - Around the same time, the world is experiencing the rapid expansion of Rock music, which emerges forcefully from the foundations of Blues, Folk, Country and Rock 'n' Roll as bands like the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Animals, Beatles, Kinks and the Who take the stage - The electrified sound they generate is groundbreaking - Popular music, simply stated, becomes loud and irreverent - The bronze alloy Paiste is already working which turns out to be perfect for the new soundscape with its amplified volume and frequencies - In 1967 Paiste launches Giant Beat cymbals, which are characterized by warmth, strength and brilliance such as drummers had not known before

Innovation: The Paiste Giant Beat is the first cymbal series to be manufactured from the coveted CuSn8 Bronze, "2002 Bronze"

Alloy: CuSn8 Bronze, also known as "2002 Bronze"

      Quality: Professional

Cymbal Production: Manual Craftsmanship - Hand Hammering, Hand Lathing

Applications: Soft to loud settings - Live and Recording - Country, R&B, Rock, Jazz-Rock

Users: Working Musicians, Enthusiasts - Drummers eager to re-capture Paiste vintage cymbal sounds from the late 60's

Sound: Bright, warm, with a complex array of full and dark presence

Looks: Dark, earthy, transparent surface texture with even, balanced hammering and lathing patterns, vintage "Giant Beat" silk-screen

Recognition: Paiste Giant Beat cymbals are used by drummers who were participants in the defining days of Rock n' Roll

Comments about Paiste Giant Beat Hi-Hats:

I came upon the reissue Giant Beats after watching Paiste's comparison video on YouTube over and over again. I just kept coming back to the Giant Beats as the best sounding cymbals for me. I ordered an entire set including the 15" Hi-Hats and like several other reviewers from the moment I played them I knew that these would be the only Hi-Hats I would ever need, I think they are perfect. I must own 15 sets of hats from my very first set of 505s to 2002 Sound Edge, Dark Crisp, K lights, Dyno beats and on and on. To me these Giant Beat hats are warm, in balance, musical, slightly dark and mysterious. They are very beautiful cymbals with rose and light green coloring, delicate hammering marks and no lathe lines to speak of. They fit in seamlessly with the other Giant Beats in the set, in balance, working together and complementing each other. On a side note I am always swapping hi-hat cymbals to see what they sound like, like trying a New Beat top with a 2002 Sound Edge bottom. The very first day I got these Giant Beats I played them as designed for a bit and loved them then I put the bottom on top and never changed them back. The sound so good both ways it is like getting two sets of hi-hats for one. My only grip is the price. I think cymbal companies have lost their mind for what they are charging for hats these days but that is across the board. I like these Giant Beat 15" hats so much I think they ruined me for just about every other set of hats I own.

GIANT BEAT HATS ARE THE BEST!

      By Anonymous

Comments about Paiste Giant Beat Hi-Hats:

These Hats are excellent! They have a nice feel and great volume. The 15" size is great, they can sound loose and trashy with a nice sizzle. If you close them up they make a nice "chick" sound that cuts the mix in live situations. I think for the price these are well worth the investment, this is a sound I will never get tired of. Paiste is the best!

      Massive Sound; Massive History

      By Local B.A.

Comments about Paiste Giant Beat Hi-Hats:

I've owned these cymbals (the 15") for a few months, and I'm already convinced that these are the only hats I'll ever need. I had already heard them in everything from Led Zeppelin to Death Cab For Cutie, and I wanted to try them for myself. They have a very pronounced, clear sound to them, but at the same time, they can sound loose and trashy if needed. They're very versitile. I absolutley love them, and the size makes them really loud and pwerful as well. I would recomend these for every genre out there. Paiste never fails.
