wow. i mean, wow. worth every penny. great, loud, and that open sound..... like i said, wow. i can see why people didnt like the closed sound so much, just a little on the tinny side (BUT STILL THE BEST IN THEIR PRICE RANGE!!!) but otherwise...... lets just say..... cant wait to hear a pair of paiste alphas!

btw, have a 16" med crash too, pst5 as well. great as well, get the whole line!!!!
      can take a beating.

      for non-noobs

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Medium Hi-Hats:

I just wanted to write a review for the rest of us that have been playing for longer than 5 years. I picked up these hats used and happen to love them. They do not have short sustain at all as one reviewer commented. There's no way he has these hats, they sustain until the cows come home. In fact the open sound is quite incredible. They don't have a cheap sound at all, or a cheap look for that matter. The lathing is far better on these than other intermediate cymbals. I would say they are actually quite comparable to new beats in pitch, but have the paiste glassyness. Very expressive and wide range, nice solid chick. Been playing for 24 years and these are as nice as any hi hats out there. For the money you can't go wrong.

      Holy freakin crap.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Medium Hi-Hats:

Wow.The PST5 line impressed the pants off me again. $116 of awesomeness. Let it be know that I know good hi-hats. I've played everything from Meinl HCS to Zildjian A Customs and K Customs.Closed:Phenomenal. The perfect tone for me. Some may like it a bit higher. Nice and firm, minimal overtone.Open:HOLY CRAP!!! I swear Paiste is getting ripped off on this line of cymbals. This thing rolls on almost as long as the A Custom hats. Nice and crisp, well balanced, even on my crappy stand. These things are LOUD!!! My mom came in when I first started playing it with one eyebrow in the ceiling. About the same volume as A Customs (sorry I keep comparing them, they're the highest end cymbals I've played).Chick:Can't say much, as I have a crappy stand that doesn't really let me do that. I assume it's halfway decent. All in all, BEAST. If your a $ minded drummer who doesn't want to sacrifice quality, this line is for you. Phenomenal hats.

      These Are Awesome

      By Anonymous

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Medium Hi-Hats:

I done lots of research. I tried Zildjins ZBT's and ZXT hats both 14" The Paiste's blew them both out of the water. The ZBT's are thick and heavy but they wear marks in them the minute you get them. And I dont like the copper color on them the ZXT's are really cheap looking and thin. The Zbts are too warm and the ZXT's are okay but jst doesn't match up to the Paiste's. They sound soo good and the stick sound is really defined really nice click and chick sounds. You can roll and drag your sticks on em like crazy. I would even consider recording with them. They're fast they cut through at just the right amount of volume. They sound fantastic I could'nt be more pleased with them. They've got a great hiss sound too! They will do whatever you tell them to. They can tackle many styles of music. They're a good dry multipurpose sounding hat.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Medium Hi-Hats:

Very bright, bit ringy when closed. More pedal pressure fixes that problem, but makes it less versatile. Nice chick with pedal, quite pronounced. Lovely open sound, sparkly and penetrating. Play open hats a lot? Then pick these up. If you're a mainly closed hats cat, stay away.

Good for price, but probably the worst of the PST5

      By Mark G.-bZ2dS

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Medium Hi-Hats:

Well, these are probably the best Hi-Hats you can get for this price range. However, in my opinion, they are the worst of the PST 5 line. Don't get me wrong, they sound great, make any other beginner cymbal sound like utter crap, and cost less than the XS20's, but they still sound a bit like 2 pieces of metal hitting each other. Pretty much, too abrasive and not musical enough. Pay the little extra and go with XS20 Hats, they should be a little more than this but worth it. The rest of the PST 5 lineup top even the XS20's in value and you should get them. LISTEN TO THE RECORDING ON CYMBAL SITES FIRST! ALL OF THE BIGGER CYMBAL COMPANIES HAVE SOUND FILES OF THEIR CYMBALS!

      Nice Hat

      By Agent.X7

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Medium Hi-Hats:

Paiste's PST 5 14" medium hats have a nice dry sound without a lot of sustain. I am one of those guys who likes very short sustain on all my percussion, so these cymbals go well with my set. The PST 5s also have the same alloy that Paiste used in the more expensive 2002 series, so you know they are quality material. They are more expensive than the PST 3s, but they sound 100x better, and they are still fairly affordable. I tried the PST 5 14" rock hats, but they have a high pitched overtone when sticking them (open or closed) that makes my spine tingle. The medium set does not have that "ting" when you stick it. (Neither have it when chicking, but I stick much more than I chick.) The medium also has a shorter sustain time.

      Awesome

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Medium Hi-Hats:

These hi hats are just awesome for the price. They are made from the same material that paiste's SIGNATURES are made from. The only problem, is that thier sound is just TO defined (when closed), they sound like you have the top hat on the ground and your hitting it like that. They are a bit too tight esspecially if you like to play soft or on the top of the hat not the side. BUT I must say, that they sound AMAZING when open. super set.

Good hi-hats for a great price

      By PWALTERS

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Medium Hi-Hats:

I purchased these hi-hats because the rock hats I wanted were not in stock. However, I am very satisfied with the sound of them. They have a focused sound when you hold the pedal down hard, but are more washy when loosened. Not as crisp as rock hats, but xcellent nevertheless
