I've been drumming for a few years now, on sets belonging to others/my church, and I finally was able to get my own real drums and cymbals. I didn't have a wide range of options; my budget was short of great, so I thought a pack would be more economical.

Indeed this universal pack is economical, however," the 16"" crash included is really awful", so in essence, you're pretty much paying for hi-hats and a ride.

The hi-hats sound good enough," however they are qute ""clangy"". This is the only word I can think of to describe it. Instead of a good ""SSS"" sound"," you get more of a ""HAAAAH"" thing going on. (the sound you make to imitate a stadium crowd). But they do the job.

The ride is the best part of this set. The body has a pretty good sound", as does the bell to a lesser extent, but the crash creates an annoyingly low overtone, so it's not good for crashing, but good for riding.

So if you really want this set, GET A BETTER CRASH. Other wise, it's good. But like how everything that's economical says....Wait until you can afford something better. Really. You'll have to upgrade certainly at some point.

Forget ZBTs, ZXTs and B8s!

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

They cost more than my drumset I bought on sale! But they are absolutely worth it. Paiste has done what other big names have missed: Make a budget cymbal pack that sounds like it's worth the money you spent on it.The hihat is decently defined and has a decent amount of washy crash when played loose. The crash sounds very very nice, very much like an intermediate bright crash (almost as good as an AAX or somewhat close to an A Custom). The ride is... meh. I mean, it performs the job decently enough, but the bell isn't very pronounced, and the wash takes too much away from the ping of your stick.Overall, buy these. You won't be replacing them with anything less than top of the line cymbals, like me!

    New Paiste Cymbal Set

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

Now I'm no expert, just picked up drums this year, but I think theses cymbals sound pretty good. Ride is great, bell's a little smaller than my friends Zil I'm used to playing on but the overall sound is great. Crash is cool, doesn't knock me out but that's it's only flaw. Hats, on the other hand, let me down. The closed sound is ok, maybe a little bland, but open they are terrible. It takes me out of my zone to suddenly hear that crashing noise from my left. I plan on replacing them with Sabian AAX's.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

I am a active musician from Pa, i been playin drums for 5 yrs now and just got these cymbals not too long ago.. i must say the crash is brilliant, very responsive, the hi hats are nice for the value they have a nice trashy sound to them if there open, if there closed they create a light powerful tone, if you use them for stage or show your gonna need a good mic. as far as the ride, i couldnt care for it has too much of a "pingy" noise to it and dies very quick i suggest a higher up paiste ride such as the alphas or rudes this ride is not what you want if you are in to metal/ hard rock overall it is a great cymbal set for the price

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

I tried this cymbals out on my set along with the pst 10" splash, and 18" china, and i have to say, the splash is the only cymbal I'm entirely pleased with. The hi hats are a little too heavy and lack sustain when played open. The ride has an overtone that prevents definition when playing a high tempoed song. The crash is pretty good, but like the others, is a little heavy. Personally, i would go for sabian B8's, same price, better quality.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

I have had the whole PST5 line and they take everything I throw at them and still look brand new. The price is just right and I'm surprized the quality for that price. I would pay triple without even thinking about it. These are a must have!!!!!

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

These Paiste cymbals are very good. The hi hats have a very controlled sound when closed. The ride cymbal has a nice pitch with a fairly short decay. I chose these cymbals over the Zildjian ZHTs because of the ride sound. I would recommend this cymbals.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

I love the crash it is bright and dry. The hats are great for the "tst" sound and the ride is a little too washy and the bell is weak but other than that it is a great ride. I'm more of a paiste guy but in this price range you can get yourself some better sounding Sabian B8pros.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

I got these cymbals just the other day . . . and they are just the absolute BEST! You can't imagine . . . waaaaaaay better then the sabian B8s and Zildjan ZBTs. You seriously won't beileve them the first time you hear them. I got these and they sound like any proffesional set. I mean the hi-hats are awesome, with a great pronounced chick sound and the crash is superb not glossy or high pitched and i love the ride. Perfect, with not overtones or anything. Perfect for any style of music.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

I'm a professional drummer who plays in a hard rock style band. I would consider myself a extreme hard hitter. In my experience I have used higher end cymbals such as paiste signature series, sabian HH,AA and Zildjan A,Z. A few years ago I tried a paiste 802 bought it and put it to the test I purposly tried to break the cymbal and it held up to the beating. I find the same quality in the PST5 line and the sound quality slightly under the signature series. I'm currently using this whole line on my new kit...and the plus is they don't look cheap either.

Paiste PST 5 - Great Beginner's Set of Cymbals

    By Timothy Evans

    from Maryland

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

I am new to drumming and this 14/16/20 unversal set is my first set of cymbals. I subsequently added a PST 5 18" crash and splash. These PST 5 cymbals are great! I especially like the 20" ride -- it can get loud on you if you're not careful with it, but that can be useful in playing rock patterns, and the nice stick definition and not too much wash (with a little softer playing) makes it good for jazz too. The hats are nice and crisp. I think the 16" crash is a little thin and "canny" sounding but that may be my bias in virtually all cymbals I've heard towards lower-pitched 18" cymbals (as shown by the fact that I prefer the 18" PST 5 crash that subsequently bought for this set). I matched these cymbals with a Ludwig CS Custom Elite all-birch set (no longer made and that's too bad) and I think I have a good standard set up for a long time to come. I don't have enough experience playing other cymbals to effectively compare with these, but Paiste has sold me on the PST 5's for a beginning drummer. So I think I'll be staying with Paiste and moving up in their line of cymbals when the time comes...

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

I just got these cymbals today and couldn't wait to start playing them, I was so amazed at the sound I got when I started playing. These cymbals are so clean and crisp, the hats have a very crisp defined chick that I love. These go perfectly with the paiste 2002 8'' splash and 19'' crash I bought off a friend. The quality of the PST 5's are right up there with paiste's high end cymbals, if your on a budget needing new cymbals or just starting out, these will amaze you with their quality.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

Theese cymbals are awesome best cymbals for the price range. But mine got stolen out of my garage. Funny story it was, happen last week , well I walked into my garage to play and some jacka$$ stole theese cymbals and my kick pedal, but the idiot who probably knows nothing about drumming didnt take my $600 Ludwig Black Beauty snare(the best snare ever) I giggled alittle because I was so glad that he didn't take my snare(it was a pain to raise the money and find one to buy). but I just ordered some new 2002's ,I was due for some new cymbals anyways. Pst 5 line are some sick cymbals I love them but no where near enough to my Black Beauty.

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

As with most budget line equipment I was a little skeptical as to how well these cymbals would sound. But, I had 2002 crash that I love so I knew Paiste makes a good cymbal. So, I gave them a try. I have been playing on them for a year now and they have held up extremely well and the sound you get for that price will simply blow you away. For anyone looking for the best budget line cymbals look no further. Paiste really have out done themselves.

    By Anonymous

Comments about Paiste PST 5 Universal Cymbal Set 14/16/20:

My dad got me these cymbals to upgrade from my Zildjian ZBTs and what a difference. They sound so much better than my ZBTs. They're a little bit quieter, but I think thats just the lack of the horrible ear shattering quality of ZBTs. PST5s have a clear, defined, beautiful sound with a perfect amount of wash. I would recommend them to anyone.
