I don't know where to start. I was looking for something that would give me a brand new type of sound compared to my other bright lively Paistes, and I found it with this one. Coming out of the box it looked so much different than what I had perceived it to be. I had listened to some sound room demos on Paiste's site, and developed a sound that was worse than what I actually received. Picking it up, it shimmered in the light and revealed all of its hand-hammered beauty. The contrast this gives me against my other cymbals is well needed. It matches the sound I'm trying to chase, and really compliments my kit. This cymbal definitely works well in loud or very quiet situations! I find myself riding on it more times than not! Theres nothing more I can say than to buy it, if you're looking for the sound of a traditional with a pretty good price, then go for this. It is washy, lively and definitely penetrating. It will cut through what you want it to, and will leave room for those essential sounds. But really, reading reviews will not match up to the true power and control you will get by using this cymbal. Read the rest of the reviews if you'd like, but you cant match what you hear with your own ears in real time.
The description they give is very accurate. I have the 16" and it is great. Sounds AMAZING in rolls/swells. What I love is that you can hit it softly for a dark sounding mellow crash, but after you get it past a certain point all this high end comes in, and it cuts through better. Very dynamic and useful in a variety of situations because of it. It does not feel like a heavy cymbal. I tried at least 30-50 crashes before getting this one.
I am using an 18" Twenty for my main ride!! Try it! I'm in love with mine. I play jazz so I'm totally not using this thing for what it is designed for but it makes for a very mellow, low pitched ride that is COMPLETELY CONTROLLABLE, sticky, and you can build and build up to a roaring crash. LOVE LOVE LOVE !!!!
I own 16" and 18". I think these crashes are just excellent. Not as good as paiste signature but very good.
I purchased an 18" crash when they first came out in March. I'm a Paiste fan, but I was very disappointed with this new series. The cymbal is just too heavy. When I struck it with my stick it sounded like a gong. The sustain lasted forever. Paiste needs to come out with a lighter line of this cymbal. I think this would be a good series if they were lighter. I'll stick with 2002's and Signatures for now.
