For the amount you pay for this snare, it's amazing, I bought the 7" x 14" deep blackout and was blown away by the volume, and the sensitivity. I replaced all of the painted hardware with chrome hardware, then the heads with a thicker coated batter and a thinner clear resonant. Now its great, but not so right out of the box.
This is an ok snare considering the price. But it needs alot of work. The shell surface is uneven, the lugs tend to break even if it's not at a high tension, I couldn't find a lug to fit the lug casing so I had to buy new lug casings and lugs and change them, this has happened to me at least 5 times. So either you need a snare pronto, get this snare. But if you don't, save up for a better quality snare.
I bought this drum a couple of months ago and must say u can't beat the sound or price. I replaced the head with a remo attack head. playing gospel music it really pops. I've had no regrets, really compliments my DW set.
I recently bought this Snare partly for it's price and partly for it's looks. I had never heard one live, but I just decided to go with it. I got it and it sounded awesome! The only problem was I was getting set up for a show and had really terrible buzz from the strands so I tighten then strainer and to my amazment instead of fixxing the buzz the lug snaped and the whole strainer fell apart.
I just got this snare today. Right out of the box it sounded alright, but I like my snares tight. So with a little bit of tunning this thing is great. Oh and I would suggest if you like your snares like mine, I would wear ear plugs! This thing has some POP!
I just got this today, Perfect Straight From The Box!! NO TUNING! Comes fully assembled and tuned, straight from the box to the set! Comes with Remo heads that sound great. Thanx Pacific.
Ive had this snair for over a year now and its great. i can tune it to many different sounds and it sounds great however i tune it. The head it comes with is great for showing people how to tune a snair, or any drum for that matter, seeing is it has numbers along the lugs. I woulod replace it though, because it will break if its hit too hard. But other than that, its a great snair.
I own some high-end snare drums, among them a Ludwig Black Beauty. This snare drum (the 3x13 model) sounds much nicer than the far more expensive Black Beauty (mine is 5x14). I was shocked at the ease of tuning, sensitivity, clarity of sound, and the fact that the snares are sensitive to the edge of the head. There are a few things I do not like about it: the strainer (throw) is not very smooth is my main complaint. My other nits are purely a matter of personal taste and do not reflect on the quality of the drum - first, I am not fond of black hardware. Second, I never was a fan of DW style lugs. But those reflect my tastes and has nothing whatsoever to do with the sound, which is extraordinary. This has to be one of the best snare drum deals available if you are looking for a drum that can be loud enough for rock, but subtle enough for jazz.
I bought this snare drum to be used as a replacement for an older one, an I can't say enough about how awesome it sounds! It's easily tuned and able to get many different sounds. If you put a studio ring on it, it sounds really really good. It's a great drum for anyone looking for a quality snare-sound for a relativley cheap price.
This snare is awesome. It has a great crack and can easily be tuned to a more sizzling sound. I think its great. Just make sure you get a new head with it because the one you get on it sucks. GET IT!
