I purchased this a snare to replace the default H.B Drums snare which was not a great snare. I loved the tone of this snare and the great snap. When I put a 30 spring rattle replacing the one that came with it adding such a awesome rattle and depth. Then I purchased the 14 Evans EC Reversed Dot Coated Snare Batter Head 14 since I wore the regular head. Wow what huge difference. The combination of the drum, new head, ad the 30 spring rattle. This drum is like lightening and thunder. Worth every single penny. I suggest to make this a special snare add what I did especially if you want to pull off a great rock sounding snare and a high tone less ring. Great for recording!
I have three wood snares. Piccolo ply snare, Taye Maple and a steam bent snare so I wanted a metal snare. This one sounds great with an Evans dry head on it. If you can afford this, buy it.
I was looking for a brass snare that would not cost me a arm and leg. I wanted the Ludwig Black Beauty and could not justify that much money I looked at the little Pork brass and almost got it. I changed to the Pacific smooth shell brass and what a buy. I used it with my band last week and they stopped and asked what happened. The lead guitarist was saying how it had more snap and projection than anything he has heard before. I was also impressed with the 10 lugs to torq it down. Not a bad deal at all.
