I don't play drums. I have played bass and sang for bands on and off for years and picked up guitar a couple years ago. My son is 9 now and has been asking for drums for 3 years. Knowing that drums are not cheap and can be even more expensive with maintenance and heads and sticks and adding cymbals and getting better pedals and so forth and didn't want to spend too much on a kit to see it collect dust as right now I am too busy with guitar to mess with them and would be stuck selling them to please the little lady. So finally she gave in and I was stoked!
I picked this one because of price for afore mentioned reasons in metal grey to keep it neutral for him to go whatever direction if he stays with it. Really nice dark metallic finish that shines. Putting the heads on was fun! Never got a chance to do that ever, sure I will be doing a lot more in time. Shells are solid and thick and surely a cheap wood but they're wood-all we need. Very sturdy. Pedals aren't fancy but are about 3/8-1/2" thick and simple mechanics so that if you keeps tight with included drum wrench they should last. Cymbals nicer than expected. Sturdy stands. Will need good heads soon and more cymbals if he keeps with. I also got baffles and they definitely seem to be needed. At least in the beginning or until I get the better heads. But yeah baffles for this kit rings! Great starter! Good kit to build up to a bigger set up. My 9 year old is an average sized skinny boy for his age and it fits him great and I play it too...sorta!

perfect starter set

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

I spent two months shopping for a beginner drum set for my 8 year old son. He patiently started lessons and practiced on a drum pad and a set of bowls. This set looks and sounds great. I know NOTHING about drums; however, was able to follow the directions and put it together in about 2.5 hours. My sons instructor helped me narrow down a good name brand for a starter set and helped me to tune the set. After HOURS spent shopping, this was the best deal I could find. The delivery was very quick and the set arrived in great shape. I would definately buy from this sight again and am very pleased with this set!

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

Couldn't ask for a better set for the price! I upgraded the cymbals right away but the ones that came with it would be great for beginners. Also the heads will need to be replaced with a little better set. Overall the hardware and quality of the set are great.

Great for a beginner

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

For a person just starting out on drums, this set is great. The only extra thing you'll want to buy is a throne, but you could always just use a kitchen chair instead. The set came with a pair of 7A sticks

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

I ordered this drum kit on the advice of my son's drum teacher. The product shipped in 2 boxes quickly and I was very excited to make my 8 year old son's Santa wish come true. His awesome teacher came on the 26th to help us set up. We then discovered that the hardware kit that was supposed to be inside of the largest box was entirely missing, most likely a factory error and not Musician's Friends fault. That kit includes the Tom legs and arms, the claw hooks, washers, lug receivers, and all the tension rods. We did receive the drums and heads as well as the cymbals, stands, and pedals. We called customer svc that very day to make MF aware of the shortage and we were told that it would be taken care of. I called again on the 31st because I hadn't heard back either by phone or email and had to restate our situation. I asked for a confirmation email. Today, the 3rd, still nothing.
I got a pt job to pay for this set, I worked hard all summer to pay for lessons and a real drum kit. That was my son's only real gift. Before I dropped him off at school today he asked me if his parts would come today so that he could play when he got home.
When this gets resolved and my son's hurt feelings are mended, I will rate the kit.

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

if you are buying this set, i would play on buying cymbals and heads soon, or now. id say buy a 3 pc sabian b8 or zildjian zbt set, get some good heads, dont worry about the resonant heads, and then itll sound really good. good luck!
comes with everything needed. just wish it came with an extra cymbal and stand.
you get what you pay for. id say this is the best set in its price range. but its obviously not at good as an $800 set.
great value!

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

I bought this set for me to have something to play around with and do some quick recordings with. It was surprisingly well-made and sounded great. The cymbals were kinda cheap but they were thin and had a nice crisp sound to them. I put some better heads and pedal and it sounded as good as my buddy's Tama set. I took it to a couple of gigs and it did great microphoned. It is a great set if you need a set that you can beat on with out breaking the bank, this will last.

    Not too bad!

    By Morgan Daly

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

My friend got this drum set as a starter set and it is pretty good. The cymbals aren't very good but can always be upgraded for something better. The drumheads are also really easy to dent but once again, easy to upgrade to something better. It is a great beginner set and the shells look nice. A throne will be needed unless you use something along the lines of a stool or something. He's had this set for about a year now and the cymbals are dented and the heads are in NEED of replacement. But overall I would recommend this set to beginners.

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals:

I've played this set for 9 months now, and trying to get out of it. The snare, toms and bass are okay for learning how to beat on something. Though I'd say the Hi-hat and the stand it came with shouldn't even be used by beginners. I typically have to screw them back together every 12 hours of playing. The rod that runs through the center of the cymbals attaches to a nut down inside the stand, it continuously comes loose on me.
