I bought this pedal for several reasons: First, I wanted an affordable pedal to learn double bass. Second, my single pedal is a DW 5000 Delta II Accelerator and I love it, so I trust DW and Pacific. Third, I have some other Pacific by DW hardware and am totally pleased with all of it. I do like this pedal; it is well engineered and solid. Balance between the master and slave is very good, alhough the feel is quite different from my single pedal; it was an easy transition. Also, you should know that I play heel down, almost exclusively. Drawbacks to the pedal are minor but worth considering: First, beater angle is not adjustable. I'm used to keeping the beater fairly close to the drum, and so this was a change. Second, the springs are very strong---stronger than my main pedal, so I have to exert more force to play; this shouldn't be a problem for the player who usually plays loud. Third, when I get the springs to their loosest functional setting the beaters are slack; I doubt most players like such low tension. At minimum tension the engineering of the pedal makes it easy for me to keep the beaters closer to the drum head. Bottom line, well engineered and sturdy pedal. Great to learn on, and it does the job nicely. It's an ncredible value from this site. I still can't believe I purchased a double for this price. I might eventually decide to trade up, but for now this does the job.

Now i love PDP and DW so dont get me wrong its just this pedal that was dissapointing for me. I play a ludwig accent 5 pice set, if that helps anyone. Now then... With limited adjustability and poor responce i would not recommend it to a gigging drummer, unless used as a practice tool. The quality of the DP402L Double Pedal was not great to say the least. It is difficult to adjust anything on this pedal exept the spring tension. It's a chain drive but its a direct drive instead of a cam. The frame of said pedal was a single cast piece resulting in the post that holds the slave spring in place snapping off after one month of use. If i were you, i would spend a litte extra money and get the lefty version of the Pearl P122TW Double Pedal (the pedal i replaced the DP402L Double Pedal for about two years ago and still use to this day). I hope this review helps someone in making a choice on a pedal.

Cons

  • Not Functional
  • Poor Tunability

Best Uses

  • Fills Accenting

Comments about PDP DP402L Double Bass Pedal, Left-Footed:

A great pedal if your looking for something for accenting and solid double bass fills,.. but if your into fast hard double bass playing(I.E. Black Metal, etc.) I would suggest looking elsewhere.. The limmited tunability to this D-B pedal makes it very hard to keep extended time and the mechanical works of the pedal are quite volumous with low spring tension...Not good for all purpose playing..

DON'T BUY THIS!

Comments about PDP DP402L Double Bass Pedal, Left-Footed:

It's not even the same pedal in the picture. It would seem that that wouldn't bode well for its quality (which is true). This thing is garbage. It may seem like a bargain...but you're better off saving up for a more expensive pedal with some FEATURES. Trust me.

Not impressed

Comments about PDP DP402L Double Bass Pedal, Left-Footed:

I've been playin drums for 10 years. bought this as a back up pedal incase my DW5000 ever had any problems on the road.. I cant even use it! there are no floor mounts to keep pedal from sliding the bass drums out.. U can't adjust the mallets to your liking, it's just adjusts to your "I guess this'll do" settings.. I'm tryin to sell it now. I'd spend extra hundred or two to get a double bass pedal thats got everything you need.. IT"S CHEAP.. You definitely get what you pay for with this one.. I've been a MusiciansFriend frequent buyer since 2000 and never had a problem with anything i've bought except for this product.. honestly this should be discontinued

UGH

Comments about PDP DP402L Double Bass Pedal, Left-Footed:

Okay, listen up. These pedals are OKAY. That is it. They don't adjust very well...and they require to much effort to kick smoothly. they are also too small to have any screamo-based hee-toe action. It doesn't matter how small your feet are...it won't work. But for the price I say this: They are okay for the starter who wants to increase his endurance and get the feel for double base playing styles.

Incredibly Satisfied

By AdrianDC

Comments about PDP DP402L Double Bass Pedal, Left-Footed:

After buying this pedal I am extremely satisfied with what I got. This pedal is heavy, strong, virtually silent, and very responsive. The beaters pack a punch and I find this pedal simply great. The price tag is very reasonable and after almost going with the iron cobra I am glad I saved some money and went with an adequate dbass pedal.

Comments about PDP DP402L Double Bass Pedal, Left-Footed:

i got theses pedals when i first started to play drums sevean years ago and i'am going to upgrade vary soon. but if your just starting to play drums and you want to do double bass stuff buy thees pedals! just one more thing...they break kind of quick withen the first 2 years i had to get new springs and the chains tend to grind down a bit and throw off your balance on the pedals, but other then that their great!

so-so

Comments about PDP DP402L Double Bass Pedal, Left-Footed:

eh, it was my first double bass pedal, so i was thrilled, but after a trip to the music store i see how much better i could have gotten for just a bit more.one thing i hate is playing it isnt smoth at all, its annoying and you realy need to put forth more effort than it should take, making it increasingly harder to play fast.i have big feet so, the size of the pedal is annoying. no heal-toe for me.i ended up having to change out the springs and that helped, it became alot more adjustable (the tension) but still nowhere near what i wanted it.i HAVE to wair shoes, skating shoes, because the right beater hits my left foot all the time and after using it the first time i had a bad bruise on the top of my foot.all in all save your money, go for better, i realy wish i would have. i recomend going to a local music store and trying out some pedals to see what fits you, dont just order online when your not sure what your buying
