i have wanted this snare for a while, and finally got it, all i have had in the past were crappy cheap set-snares, ones that tensioned too high the lugs would bust, but with this one, i have them tuned extremely high, and not even a crack, this drum sounds, and looks great, the first time i used it, all my fellow band members were in awe, especially the other drummers, the only flaws i have found are tiny, the washers on the lugs sucking, getting stuck in the rims, and im not a big fan of the snare/throw off system, but after new heads, new snares, and some new washers, i love this drum, and im keeping it around for a long time

I have had many snare drums in my 41 years of playing. This was the most disappointing ever. I bought this to match an inexpensive dwP birch kit I bought here for hobbyist playing. The kit has an 8-lug snare and I assumed it would be no good. The birch snare sounds great with the hoops upgraded to 2.3 mm and an Evans ST Dry batter head installed. Though this Maple snare had a more premium price, it had the same thin hoops, the strainer was garbage (the one on the birch version is fine) and it sounded absolutely horrible. It looked deceptively good though. The shell was finished well and had nice grain and even some figuring. And it did have DW heads. You can do much better for the money in my humble opinion...unless appearances (the DW logo on the head and the look of maple wood) is more important to you than sound and quality.

Nice

I took a chance buying this snare. I never thought I would ever be so lucky to have a snare which has a nice sound and attack. You may have to use a damper on the snare or just change the head.

Great Drum!!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought this snare over a year ago and it still sounds great, I put a Bozzio coated head on it and it cracks. I play all types of music and it works great in all situations, I'll field my arsenal with Pacific snares. Well worth the price, good buy drummers!!

Maple hype a bust on this one

By EMan-KlEGQ

from NC

I've been playing 41 yrs. and I've had many, many snares. This 6 X 14 Pacific maple is the most disappointing ever. I got it in anticipation of the birch one that came with my new dwP set being no good. But the birch 8-lug with my cheap, new set sounds and works great and this one sounded horrible. The strainer barely worked and I believe those were 1.6 mm hoops. The shell was beautiful and it had DW heads. So if you're only going for looks, this is a good one.

Great snare

By Jordan-qR6y3

I have the 5 1/2x13 version of this, and it is the best snare I've owned. It's incredibly versatile, and sounds great no matter how you tune it. I will say that the only trouble I've had with it is the nut holding on the badge fell of inside. Also the rim is a little off. I usually use Evans heads exclusively but the rim of the head isn't big enough for th hoop. I put on a Remo Weatherking and its fine now. Amazing crack.

Amazing Quality Snare!

By T.H.

from Merced, CA

I can't believe that I paid so little for this amazing drum! This snare has the quality and sound of snares costing much more. When tuned correctly, this drum is very responsive and will easily take its place as the star of your kit. Also, the hardware and finish are professional quality. DW's PDP line is one that I will stick with for a long time. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are truly amazing.
