I just ordered this kit in the tobacco fade finish and the first thing I noticed when I got the kit is that photos on the internet do it no justice at all. The finish is absolutely gorgeous and compares very nicely to a custom DW finish. Not only that but the sound mimics a DW set almost flawlessly. The toms are very easy to tune due to the warm tones coming from the all-maple shells. The tom mounts on the new PDP kits now mimic the design of the DW tom mounts optomizing tom spacing and placement. The pillow that comes with the kit is small enough that it will only muffle the batter head and allows the resonant head to ring with a slight bit of overtone making the kick drum reall punch to the chest, and it sounds awesome. The 800 series hardware is heavy and extremely durable and rather inexpensive. I only wish the boom arms were a tad bit longer as they are about half the length of the boom arms on the Tama Roadpro stands. 14" toms don't really tune as low as I'd like so I plan on expanding the kit later on. All in all, this is a gorgeous looking, fantastic playing drum kit that will play right up with top-end kits at only a fraction of the cost. I highly recommend this kit to the drummer on a budget that is not willing to sacrifice quality.

I'll start out by saying that I've played Tama for years, so maybe that biases me, but this just was not the greatest kit. I've tried changing heads, used all kinds of brands (Evans, Remos, and even Aquarians)and could not get the lively resonance that maple is supposed to provide. On top of that, the tom mounts make miking very inconvenient. I haven't found a single rim mount that can do the job without putting the mic right in my strike zone or placing it at such an awkward angle that picking up quality sound was nearly impossible. My advice: find a used Tama Rockstar. That's what I use now and its probably one of the best kits I've played. If you're looking for a practice kit, this MIGHT be for you, but as far as actual gigs go, forget it.

    Sweet, Sweet Kit

    By Oldskool-Yvsij

I Bought my Emerald Fade kit January 06 and it is the best kit for the money. The fat warm tone rivals only that of it's big brother, the original DW custom kit. Put some good batter heads on this jewel and you will be rockin in no time. I put Evans Hydraulics on this kit and it sounds sweet. Throw a PDP rack around it, outfit it with Zildian A Customs, get yourself a DW 9000 double pedal set with matching DW 9000 hi-hat, and you have a pro grade kit. Save the extra cash and buy this kit. The extra flow can go for the Les Paul to stand beside it. You won't be sorry.

    Review

    By Bobby Cav

I bought this set after hearing my drum teacher's DW. This sounds just as good!! The stock heads aren't great, but are they ever? Another thing is I would recommend a set of padded bags or cases to protect the finish, as you don't wanna scratch them when they look this good! Awesome set, more than worth the money. Also the 8 inch tom and 16 inch floor toms make great add ons for those who want a bigger kit. BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!!!!

    Amazing Set!!

    By Drum Dr

    from Peabody MA

This is a great set for the price. This is my 2nd set and it blows my 1st out of the water, the maple sound is very punchy and loud, I suggest evans coated heads on these to get rid of some sustain from the stock heads, also the mounting system is PERFECT, you can put the mounted toms wherever you want. I have them like perfectly horizontal and low, and also the fusion sizes allow you to position them as close as you want together which a lot of drummers like. Also the green to black fade is breathtaking under lights, overall this set is pretty much perfect and you can also buy an 8" tom to add or a 16" floor tom which is great. BUY THIS KIT!

    nice

I'v had this set since December and i love it! the maple looks and sounds great, the only thing wrong with it is the heads. I had it for less than a month and the MD tom skin broke, but you should almost always replace stock heads,so i wasnt mad. I recommend it to anybody who wants the maple sound without the maple price

Great drums for anyone on a budget

    By TB-Le3dF

    from Detroit, MI

I've had this kit for a year now and they haven't dissapointed me yet. I replaced the stock heads immediately and can't use the snare, opting for a DW instead. The sound quality is amazing and for what I paid, I feel like i've stolen these from someone. For anyone who wants great sound for less bucks, this is the kit. And with the dough you save, purchase the PDP rack. Another great item from a decent drum manufactuer.

    Great Kit

    By Bill S 31196

    from Cranston, R.I.

This kit sounds great, Replaced the snare with the Joey Jordison Pearl snare and I'm loving it now. Will need to change the heads going with Evans. But the kit is a great deal for the money.

    great kit

    By Jeremy-okAwh

    from Muskegon, MI

I own this kit in tabbaco fade. This drum set is awsome, except the snare. The finish is great!! looks alot better in person though. The hardware is good. It is quite hard to explain in words how great this drum kit is. I play with sabian 14" hats, 14", 16"and 18" med-thin crashes, 10" splash, 18" china.

    Best drumset ever!

    By GooGoo Tim

    from peachtree city, GA

This drumset is the greatest. It has the best sound ever. The only difference between PDP and DW drums is the the lugs and the finishes. They sound pretty much the same to me.
