I love this drum. I put a Remo Ambassador on the batter side and a Remo Diplomat on the snare side. I also bought the Gibraltar 13" 2.3mm hoop for the batter side and left the stock reso hoop as is. It sounds amazing. This drum is well worth the money. It looks cool too.

i bought this snare about a week ago. i had to get a new one because the my last snare(pearl) had the strainer to break. i wanted this one anyways and with the price of pearl parts it would have been almopst as much as this snare. this snare is not very sensative. but if you play with alot af rim shots and loudly it is greet.when you get this change the heads to an evans 200 snare side head and an HD dry beatter head with puresound blaster

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

This drum hit in the center sweet spot sounds like a rim-shot on a DW. Or anything else. I know, I've played a metal chrome DW snare. Tuned up high and rimshots it will have that Reggae tone. Tensioned medium it sounds fat. Add a moon-gel and the ring is gone. Records perfectly.
You will have to tension to your taste, they don't ship in the box cranked up tighter than a tick.

        PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum 3 1/2 x 13

        By Marc Roberge

        from Calif. USA

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

When this drum arrived I set my 10-lug, 11-ply birch snare to the side and in it's carrying case
for what was going to be a short while to test this chrome metal piccolo to see if it would make
a good "side snare" for those Reggae beats or anything similar needing high-end pop.

After a 4-hour test, here's some results: a good whack in the dead center sweet spot with
the right hand is equal to a rim shot with the left. Has a crack like a gunshot.

Then I played some pinging and dinging Reggae style rimshots. It's a Piccolo snare but it
can be tuned to be your main snare. I put just 1 moongel at the edge and that dampens only
the high-end harmonic ring. I have played a DW metal snare and this is equal in every way.

The size is 3 1/2" x 13" not stated I think at the website. Sales associate confirmed on the phone
prior to shipping. It's a beauty. Plays like a dream. I've been playing for 5 hours a day since
it arrived. Guaranteed to record well as well.
Well, it has numbers 1 through 6 stamped on the batter head staring at you every time you
play it. Indicates the tensioning order of the 6 tension rods into the lugs. That's a feature you
don't see everyday. And you do want to tension this drum up quite a bit from the way it ships.

Another feature, the snare throw-off lever pulls up smoothly and alongside of the drum,
not at a 90 degree angle.

Comes with a coated batter head.
The quality? It's PDP, which from what I've read is DW built in a neighboring country.
Fantastic value. The bang for the buck can't be beat.

This snare sounds better than my 10 lug ludwig and my 8 lug 12 inch artwood. Has a G1 batter and crushes them both; go figure.............

        Nice snare for the dollars

        By AlwaysLearning

        from St. Louis

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I originally purchased this snare as a second to add that nice piccolo "pop" to my set. It definitely has done that. Good drum for the money and usable right out of the box, but I have the same comments as most- the stock heads are poor, I replaced both with Aquarian textured batter side and high performance snare side- Makes a world of difference. I also found the stock rims to flex at higher tension, although not necessary to replace, I ran across a set of 6 hole cast rims for a great price and this did the trick on tuning.

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

My brother got me this snair drum for last christmas and it is AWESOME!!!!! I still have the same heads that it came with on it and i have had it for more than a year and it still is great. I tuned it up really high so it has that great piccolo snare sound. If i get new heads for this snare i think it will souund even better and I will use this snare for a long time.

        Not a bad little snare

        By Rujo King

        from Virginia

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I just started playing with it. It works well with brushes, sticks and rods. There's quite a bit of ring, but nothing a good application of tape or Moongel wouldn't fix. My only complaint is that the lugs are a bit rough, and I had trouble tuning one to the same level as the others because of friction. The stock heads are, like usual, subpar, but with a good Evans batter the thing lights up, with a decently wide tuning range.Got it as a secondary snare, and I'll be using it to spice up my backbeats. It's not a great piece of kit, but definitely a serviceable one.

        Fantastic purchase by anyone!

        By MarshmanDW

        from Undisclosed

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

This piccolo snare is the exactly what i hoped it would be! I agree with the other reviews: high and tight, then higher and tighter (obviously within reason). And to address the stock head thing. No stock head is gonna be anywhere near usable compared to an after market one. ahem.. REMO! I put a Powerstroke III as my batter and an Ambassador as my reso and couldn't be happier. Chad Sexton status in no time haha

This is a great snare. If uput the right heads on it, top and bottom, then tune it up high and tight you will bang on this drum all day. A must have!
