      Pearl Soprano Snare drum

Comments about Pearl 8-Ply Maple Soprano Snare Drum:

This is a fantastic snare drum! It sounds incredible, looks incredible, and has a wide tuning range. I was skeptical about the size of it at first. I didnt think a snare with a 12" diameter would be so versital. I think it comes from the 7" depth. I love the thick 8 ply shell. this drum has a lot of high end crack that really cuts through anything but also has plenty of body to go with it. I took of some points on features and quality because of the throw off, also because i have heard replacement hoops are hard to find, but mainly because of the throw off. It is really small and after playing on it for about half of a song, the strainer would all the way loose. I dont know if i just got a defective one or what but i replaced it with a dw mag throw off and the everything works fine now. I was really suprised at how low you can tune this drum. The low tunings sound just as good as the high tunings as well. Something interesting I noticed about this drum is it's volume. Because of it's small size, it isnt overly loud. I own/have owned quite a few snare drums of all different materials (tama starclassic babinga, Mapex black panther maple, ludwig black magic, Dw vlt, mapex m birch, etc) and i usually rotate through some of them when i play at church. I noticed when i got back around to playing this one again, It didnt seem as loud as the others when i would lay into it as hard as i could. Which is nice for the type of room we have church in. Holds about 300 people tops and the drums can be overwhelming in at times in a room of that size. So its nice to have a drum that i can just let loose on and people wont be losing their hearing! Maple is always been a stunning looking wood, especially when its finished. The finish on this drum is BEAUTIFUL!! unless you dont like orange. The orange is a lot brighter than the picture shows. Look up other pictures online to get a more accurate look.

      GREAT SNARE!!!

Comments about Pearl 8-Ply Maple Soprano Snare Drum:

This snare is awesome! Simple as that. I play a lot of Ska/Prog rock, so that nice crisp POP is a must-have for me that is impossible to get out of most other snares. The only bad thing about it is that it's a little hard to find replacement parts for it( this however is MORE than outweighed by the drum's quality)Great snare, especially for the price.

I've had this snare for about 5 months and its my favorite snare of my collection. (I even like it more than my Noble & Cooley Alloy Classic). You can crank the head on it and get a nice high pop. Or leave it normal tension and get just a nice overall sound, great for any style of music. I use it everyday and wont ever get rid of it. I also put a wedge on it to get a nice cross sticking sound.

I got this snare a while ago and it's the sweetest thing i've ever played. It's real responsive and sounds great. I have had a lug break but it's like 3 years old. Replacement parts were hard to find, but i will never use anything else ever again. I hope this helps.

      Lot's of

Comments about Pearl 8-Ply Maple Soprano Snare Drum:

Before getting this snare drum, I owned a Chad Smith, a Ludwig 14x8 super-sensative, and an old Ludwig 14" marching snare. None had the distinct "pop" sound that I was looking for. I checked out probably 20 other drums first, and I couldn't find the sound that I was looking for. Then, as much as I hated the thought of playing a 12" snare drum, I gave it a chance. All I can say now is that I would not trade it for a drum of triple the price, and even though I was ploanning on using it as a second snare drum, it is now my main snare. I guess the best way to describe the sound is just that it has the best, most punchy and warm, full "pop" that any of the drums I have ever used or heard have. You have to hear it if you are looking for a new snare drum. The highest recommendation I have ever given any instrument.

      One Of The Best

I played this snare in a church before my boy let me use it and I fell in love with first time. When I say its the best snare I have I my collection it is the best. The 8-plys give it the snap and pop tp it and plus its all maple. I purchase one about a month ago and I'm so happy. I'm telling it will be the best snare drum in your collection.

I've been using this snare for 4 years and it manages to amaze me everytime i play it! Responsive enough to use in coffee house setting, but packs ample punch and crack to fill a stadium. I'm ALWAYS complimented on this snare. I own 5, but this one is my baby. BUY IT!

      Tremendous range.

Comments about Pearl 8-Ply Maple Soprano Snare Drum:

Hands down the most versatile drum in my collection. Not only is the tuning range tremendous, but the range of volumes that make this drum sing is amazing. If you like a drum with good drum sounds all over the head then this drum is for you. This drum accepts a variety of heads well. Even a 2 ply head like a coated G2 don't seem to bother it much. This drum is a must have if you do acoustic shows. It has enough punch to hold down a rock band too. In fact I was watching an opening band at an outdoor St. Patrick's day party in 2003 and I noticed the snare drum sounded really good. I looked up, saw the finish, picked my way through the crowd, and there it was. This same 12x7 drum. It sounded fat. I was amazed. Beautiful finish. Liquid Amber #114. I've had one for 2 years and it is starting to darken up a little bit. I get lots of compliments on it. It is one of the finest instruments I own.The only bad points I can think of are:1. You may need a snare stand that goes way low. Ludwig has a nice one. I think Pearl has some adapters you can put on the basket of most stands. Both the depth of the drum, and the fact that you have to draw the basket way up to hold a "small" 12" diameter add up to a tall snare.2. Beware the cross sticking at lower head tensions. Of course it depends on the stick to some degree. At moderate to high head tensions the cross sticking and rim shots sound great. Even brushes work well on this drum. 'nuff said.
