I've had this snare for about 6 years now. It has been through many gigs and many recordings and sounded excellent in every situation. It might take a while to find the "sweet spot", but when you do, this snare has a beautiful tone with a nice crack to it! Ambassador batter head is probably the best head for this snare. Expect it to ring at least a bit no matter how you tune it. If that's not what you're going for, look elsewhere. It's also very loud, but can be played lightly and still sound great! :)

I got this snare about 3-4 months ago. It sounded real nice when it was new, then soon after it started to get wierd. We were recording a demo and I hit the snare once, sounded beautiful, did a fill, then a rim shot - hit the snare again, sounded like a bucket of popcorn. I put new heads on it, tuned it up real nice and pretty (both sides), sounded good for a few days. Same scenario. I dont know what it is, but I blame the drum. It's the only one I've ever had that has done this kind of thing.Anyway, if you like changing heads and tuning and maintaining your equipment just as often as you play - this drum is all you. Go for it.

Comments about Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare Drum:
I've had this snare for a couple years now and it's done very well by me. I play mostly rock music so I can really make it shine with my style of playing. However, I would not recommend this snare to anyone who is playing more laid back music. The overtones will be obnoxious if there isn't enough sound from the other instruments to drown it out a little. I've tried using Moon Gel to dial back the overtones but it just takes away the quality tone of the drum. In short, if you play rock music or anything in that vein, absolutely buy this snare. If you play latin or jazz or something, you should definitely look elsewhere.

Ok, I have loved this snare from day one. It sounds amazing when you give it what it needs. The ambassador head that comes on it is probably the one that you should use. I have an ambassador ebony on it tuned up tight on both sides and I'd be confident using it for any genre. Overall, a little pricey but worth every cent a snare that will last you forever.
BONUS- The rim is the best I have ever used. My drum teacher who has been playing for forty plus years professionally and frequently, not just a teacher, drooled over it when I brought it to her. She loves to jam out like jazzy swingy stuff like Krupa, where a solid rim is necessary.

Comments about Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare Drum:
So a few years ago i had a vented 12 ply maple custom snare, I thought that thing was LOUD but this is much louder and brighter than that snare. I got this not knowing what to expect used for 100 bux, and i absolutely love it, you can crank it all the way to marching snare status, or tune it low and get a real fat, dank sound. i have found a sweet spot and it just cracks, and is the loudest thing on my custom made maple kit. it does have a tad of ring that i had to use duct tape on the edge of Aquarian head to get rid of it. Just ordered an Evans hd dry, so i think that will make this sound even better, which is hard to believe. i absolutely love this snare.
Comments about Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare Drum:
I got this snare for Christmas, just today and it's fantastic. The rattle on it is so intense. If you play reggae (which I personally don't) this is your snare. It's just a completely ideal drum for reggae drummers. Still good for any style though.
Comments about Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare Drum:
I purchased this snare about a year ago. It replaced my entry level snare and i was very impressed. I have a Remo CS coated head on top and an evans hazy 300 as snare side. This drum has a great crack with plenty of tone and body. The ring is easily drowned out by other instruments. I use no muffling at all and i love it. Very loud, very sensitive. Great snare for any drummer.
Comments about Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare Drum:
I have been playing drums for most of my life and most recently for the last 8 years in our praise band at church. I just upgraded from Pearl EXR to Master MCX. I bought the shell pack and the dealer threw in the Chad Smith Signature. It already had a remo weatherking coated head on it so all I had to do was tighten the lugs and put a dampening ring on the top and it sounds great. It rivals my Ludwig Supraphonic. Anyone who can' get a crack out of this drum doesn't know how to tune a snare!!
Comments about Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare Drum:
I was over with one of my drummer friends and he had this snare drum. Absolutely fantastic sound!!! He said he had very little trouble making it sound as good as it did. The sound it produces goes well with many genres. Very good snare drum for someone who plays a lot of everything. Not a bad price either.
Comments about Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare Drum:
I have been playing four over 40 years in bands and now mainley in Church. I have playe ddrums early in my career and switched to Bass and wanted to keep up on my drumming, also! I needed a updated snare that wouldn't break the budget! I reviewd with other drummers and what I read on line. It takes me some time to research when ever I am looking for band equipment. I treyed more expensive snares but I this one became my choice. I have a Remo Ambassador head on it! I also have a mute ring to quiet it down If I desire, I really like it and its quality, Oh yes I could have spent more, but its not about money! Its about value for the dollar! I think this is a great snare. It works for me, and I play all kinds of music. I don't think you will be disappointed. O I was considering a Tama and others, but? I am very happy with this one!
Comments about Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare Drum:
Ok look, i bought the Chad Smith snare drum and i have had it about a week. I thought it sounded pretty good in the store but then i got it home and it didnt impress me at all. It has no crack and i would not recommend it for rock or jazz. NOT GOOD
