It's interesting that all the ratings on this are either Excellent, or Terrible - let me explain. This is a very well designed, well constructed throne, and if you're the kind of person who likes supportive seating (that means firm) you will like it - on the other hand, if you like a throne with thick soft padding, you won't like it.
The Pearl DR-80 drum throne is very well constructed. The double braced legs are very sturdy and the inclusion of a memory lock on the post prevents slipping. But above this durable base is the least comfortable seat ever made. Overall, Pearl makes great hardware. With an emphasis on hard. The padding is negligible and after a long gig my entire lower back region is sore. This throne
I got this throne looking for good throne to replace the one that came with my pearl kit and i thought it would be good, i was wrong. I am a huge fan of pearl drums and hardware, but they dropped the ball with this one. The seat is REALLY uncomfortable, it's just like sitting on a bad bicycle seat with hardly and padding (if any). If you've got a few more bucks go with the roadster or roc-n-soc or pretty much anything else.
This throne is worth the small price. It's not the best throne in the world but its still great. The saddle style is perfect for drummers with a double kick pedal. My legs don't get tired as quickly as they did with my old throne. The cushion is on the harder side but you have to break it in. Once you get used to it, it's really comfortable.
At this price, this throne is worth it. If you can afford more, don't bother. At the maximum height it feels unstable. The seat cushion is very uncomfortable. Pearl makes nice hardware, but frankly their drummer thrones are not. I based my purchase decision on my current vintage Pearl throne. No comparison even after all those years.
A good solid seat, the same look as the rest of the Pearl Hardware that is being manufactured these days. The presets are always a good idea and the price seems reasonable. The throne easily gets the job done but might be more suitable for a female drummers then males. Think about buying the Motorcycle CROTCH rocket style in contrast to the round throne kind. I find the round more comfortable but the motorcycle gives you more exposure which improves your playing. I still stress that it's more for a female.
