This is a solid throne. I think it should have come with a back on it for the price tag. I was expecting the seat to be a lot softer than what it is but it is still very comfortable. The two options for seating positions are nice to have. This throne has helped alleviate some of the muscle cramps I get in my back while playing long shows for sure. A backrest probably would have taken care of the muscle cramps for sure. The build of this throne is very strong and I can tell this thing will hold up for a long time.
After owning my 2nd (yes two of these), I highly recommend that you DO NOT buy this product. My first D2000 fell apart in the middle of a performance. The casting that clamps the spindle to the base cracked half, leaving me, the drummer on the floor. Pearl replaced it with a brand new throne 5 months ago. The new throne wobbles horribly IN THE SAME SPOT. I can never seem to keep the assembly tight at the set height. This is a bad design, especially for the cost. Pearl should stick to what they do best... drums.
I've had this throne for quite a while now (about six months) and I haven't had any problems with it. It's a good, sturdy, reliable, and comfortable throne. It's fully adjustable, stays put, and keeps circulation in your legs for those long sets. It's an excellent value on top of that.
An experienced drummer said once to me: "If you're going to spent big bucks on a single piece of hardware, let it be your throne". And man am I glad I listened to him... this is by far the most beloved piece of hardware I own! If your planning to spent hours at your drums (specially if you suffer back pains like I do) buy this seat; it's a no-brainer. It is comfortable, it is tuff... and, if that's not enough: It looks great!!!
WOW. I used a Gibralter throne for about a year now and its creaky, squeaky, unsupportive, near falling apart rear-end is outta here! The Pearl D2000 Roadster SE Throne is absolutely amazing. Both seating positions really do provide a different feel (both absolutely comfortable), the four legs really really REALLY keep you sitting where you want to be with no movement, and the actual seat is just amazing. It's so comfortable. I've never had so much stress relieved off of my back. Oddly enough, it really DID enhance my playing ability. You don't have to worry about your back hurting from extended playing periods. You're so at ease everything just flows out better. GOOD STUFF!
