The first set I ever owned! Starting out you don't realize that different drum woods and sizes matter, when in fact its the most important thing to accent your personality and playing style. Poplar is one of the most used woods in entry level drums because its cheap and sounds most simlilar to maple. This set being 5ply 6mm poplar shells, looses chunk and projection but has a very warm and resonant tone. The rock sizes ruin the kits sound as the deeper depth of the drums make it sound hollow. *horrible for live situations* This can be somewhat controlled with the right skins. *Remo pinstripes reccommended* If your looking for a higher end at home practise kit, I reccomend this kit entirely. If your looking for a jam/studio/live kit, definatly look into something with higher grade wood. Maple or birch are the most popular because maple accents warm tones without loosing projection and birch's naturally EQ'd sound makes it perfect for the studio and live situations. Hope this helps.

Although it appears to built well, my Pearl Export set needed several modifications to get the sound of the kit where I liked it. The bass and toms needed new heads to replace the low-end stock ones. In my opinion, the snare is the weakest part of this kit, so I tossed mine and bought a Pork Pie. Maybe my set had some defects, but it left with the thought that there was quite a bit of room for improvement.

Awesome!

By Sackett7x

I just got mine today and i love it. I got the wine red and it looks sweet. Everything seems to be really sturdy. The only thing I dont like are the stock heads. Get new ones and it will sound great.

All together I thought it was a tour kit to begin on and do not listen to "bubs" because any experienced drummer would know, you have to replace basically all stocked heads(unless you buy a kit that comes custom with Remo or Evans heads). Also if he new anything a bad head does not make a drum set bad, especially a pearl.

Amazing Drums at an Amazing Price

By SithLord-tbgu-

Anyone who has "complaints" about these drums needs to have their head replaced. For drums in this price range, these Pearl's are flat-out amazing. Obviously they're not the quality or sound of a high-end kit, and if that's what you're looking for, it's obviously gonna cost you more. Having been around drums for 15+ years, I would recommend these to someone looking for a "mid-grade" practice set, or a lower-end performing kit. And, in actuality the heads that come with it aren't half-bad if they are properly tuned. I'll beat on them for a while before I replace them. Basically, if this is the price range you're looking at, you won't be disappointed with these.

Overall Great Set!!

By Righteoussound840

This set is an amazing piece of equipment as is. Not only have I used but my friend owns it and the sound quality, durability, and versatility of it is great. I'm even considering buying this set. I would recommend this to anyone, starting out or playing their entire life, doesn't matter. It's a good price for this set. Well worth it.
