I use this snare pretty dry for punk and rock music. I love it. I get nothing but compliments from sound techs and it never goes out of tune. I had to put a higher quality throw on it, because the last one broke. But after that its been smooth sailin and I love it!
- Was this a gift?:
I got this with my pearl Export kit about 4 or 5 years ago. It was an OK snare at first, sounded pretty good as far as i could tell, but shortly the throw broke and I had to rig it as best I could for it to work, but I ended up having to tighten it myself. Also, buzzing has been a problem since the get-go. I've tried multiple heads (different evans, aquarian, remo...)and all buzzed then I realized that the wood on the bottom had warped from the strainer and it had been like this for a while but getting worse and worse. Overall, don't buy it by itself, but if it comes with your kit I would def. put new heads on it and save your money to buy a nicer snare.
I got this snare with my Export kit and I love it! I wasn't sure how it would sound until I tuned it up and it has a great sound for what this snare costs. Perl knows how to make snare drums and this one is terrific. The Export series of drums are an excellent value!
This snare was included with my new Pearl EX set. I replaced the heads immediately with an Evans clear on the bottom and an Evans frosted on the top. While using my drum dial tuner to accurately dial in the tympanic pressure I noticed some of the lugs wouldn't give me the same reading. What happen was the bottom rim warped at the side where its cut to allow the strainer (spring ) pass through. After this happen the snare has sounded horrible. No matter how much I choke the snare it still vibrates and sounds horrible. Only one word describes the quality of this EX snare drum, Cheap. Spend the extra cash and by a snare with 2.3mm rims and 10 lugs for tuning.
This snare was included with my EX Pearl set and the bottom rim ended up warping from tuning the head; it is unbelievably cheap metal that can't be tuned near 85 using my Drum dial. Now the bottom rim is warped and the snare sounds like crap. I am shopping for better brand snare.
I got this snare with my drum kit, It served me well but eventually the throw broke. The heads that come with it are crap and need to be replaced. The snares are ok, but to get the most out of this drum you need to replace the heads. The poplar wood has a mellow pitch that might be usefull in some mellow music. It really isn't a cutting drum.
I have played the pearl export radical snare and it is beautifully amazing. I am going to get this soon if my local guitar center or beacocks has it in there inventory. I think is has an awesome poppish sound. Definitely worth the money.
