Comments about Pearl Free Floating 6-Ply Maple Replacement Shell:

Ive been playing the 6.5 brass shell for the past two years and recently decided to invest in the maple shell just to change things up and to see how it sounds against my brass shell. I play in a cover band and we play songs across the spectrum from rock to pop to hip-hop and R&B, and my thinking is that the maple shell will be more versatile. Its too early to tell which shell I like better, but first impressions of the maple are its extremely bright, has a higher tuning range, and is loud - slightly louder than the brass shell, which is hard to believe. Very, very bright and really cuts through the mix. However, I use in-ear monitors, and by the end of my first gig, the snare was becoming slighly over-bearing on the high end. (I may have had the head tuned too tight) The maple shell does look better - I have the natural amber and the high gloss across the wood grains is beautiful. In my opinion, this is a great sounding shell, especially if you like to really crank up your head and you like the poppy snare sounds of 311, No Doubt, Blink 182, etc. But if you are looking for more of a rock tone - Metallica, Chili Peppers, etc - you would be better off with the brass shell.

The Loudest snare drum out there

Comments about Pearl Free Floating 6-Ply Maple Replacement Shell:

I bought a 14 x 3 1/2 back in '96. I have never even thought twice about my purchase. My only regret is that when I recieved the wrong color, I never sent it back for the correct color that I asked for in the first place. This snare drum design allows the head to sing. It is so responsive that the slightest impact provides a musical and subtle response not found on other snare drums. I originally purchased a masters custom snare drum and was very unhappy with the dynamics of that particular drum. The free floating snare drum is by far the most outstanding drum on the market. If you are one of those drummers that beats the living piss out of your snare, this is your answer. It will change your drumming! Trust me
