Comments about Pearl Hex Ganza Short:

I had one of these for many years, until someone swiped it one night. I loved it, it was easy to hold, responsive, versatile, and had a great sound, as it could be mellow, but would also cut through well enough to help get the band on the same page, if the groove began to drift apart.

The new one, however, is not quite the same high-quality instrument as it used to be... The shell &/or the little pellets inside don't have the same big sound, & it doesn't cut through as well as the older model. This one seems a bit smaller, lighter, and doesn't seem as well made. That said, it will still work pretty well. If it were much more expensive, I would not recommend it, but it's reasonably priced.

Comments about Pearl Hex Ganza Short:

I used to own a similar model, which obviously Pearl no longer makes. It was a bit bigger than this, but smaller than the larger version. What I most loved about it, was it was bright enough to cut through even a loud band. I was able to really set up the groove, and in some cases, get the rhythm section back in sync, if it strayed. However, neither this small one, or the larger one cut enough anymore.

I will have to find something else to fill them with, perhaps beans or BBs, to create a brighter sound. These sound too much like every other shaker, and are a bit more expensive, without adding more to the experience...
