Comments about Pearl Limited Edition Artisan II Maple Snare Drum:
You can tune this snare to get a lot of different(but still great) sounds. you can tune it up high and it'll stand toe to toe with any other maple snare that R&B drummers play. If you tune it lower, you can get a nice warm sound like the old disco bands in the 70's. If you experiment with extra dampening, it'll really give a dryer sound, like the snare on the old Heatwave records. But no matter the tuning, it never loses its crack. it cracks beautifully at any tuning range. no regrets buying this snare. i don't think you can beat this one, especially for the price
Pros
- Easy tuning
- Great Sound
- Huge Tone
- Responsive
Cons
- Makes others jealous
Best Uses
- Jammin to your own songs
Comments about Pearl Limited Edition Artisan II Maple Snare Drum:
This is the best of four snare drums i have ever owned. Whether you are an expert or a biginner i highly recomend this snare drum due to the amazing tone and affordability. I have seen much more expensive products than this but to buy them you are paying for just a name or fancy discriptions that occomplish nothing but a scam, for they do not produce exeptional sound. But this product has the perfect tone for many genres of music. I have played from death metal to smooth jazz on this but my favorite genre on this snare is thrash metal. But i digress. I would highly recomend purchasing this snare.
Comments about Pearl Limited Edition Artisan II Maple Snare Drum:
This drum rocks, period. I was playing snare drums in Guitar Center one day and this one blew them all away, and we're talking about other snares that cost $500+ with legendary names and reputations. But here's the thing - you can't hear a brand name, and you can't hear a model name. All you can hear is great sound, and for that, this snare is it. It's a fantastic versatile size - you want a lot of crack, crank it up tight. If you want it to be big and fat, tune it lower - it will give you everything you need. Nice and warm, good body, great snare response - just a fantastic drum.
Two sayings I like to go by for many things are, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and "why re-invent the wheel?" When looking at this snare drum, it has everything it needs - a great shell, good snare wires, a die-cast snare butt, 2.3 mm triple flanged Superhoops, bridge style lugs and a nicely adjustible, functional snare throw - all high quality. What more could you need?
Pearl's level of quality, both for finish and for hardware parts is always top notch.
Where else can you get a 100% maple snare that looks this good with such high quality parts for that low of a price? I think some people get confused that you need to pay more for great sound and quality, but in my opinion, Pearl hit the nail on the head with this snare.
Comments about Pearl Limited Edition Artisan II Maple Snare Drum:
I recently played the Artisan II Limited Edition Maple Snare at our local Guitar Center and loved it. I actually took down all of the 15-20 snares show-cased in the store and this snare outplayed all of them including a nice $500.00+ snare by a notable drum manufacturer. It has an excellent range as a traditional rock or multi-purpose snare and has a beautiful crack/pop. It was also low on unattractive overtones which were easily controlled with a nicely placed moon gel. It also has a nice look although a down side is that it is a veneer rather than the actual wood that you see on the outside. Given the price as a maple snare it is unbeatable. I ultimately went with the Omar Hakim Signature Snare which I have had my eye on for a while but wish that I had the money to add both to my kit. I continue to think about the Artisan II and I don't believe she and I are done with one another yet.
