Wow. Honestly.First of all, before buying this kit, I was against birch drums and also very opposed to wrapped finishes (mine is the bronze glass wrap), but that changed as soon as I heard it. I'm fairly experienced with drumming, sound engineering, and music production overall. This kit is one of the best I've heard. I have the 22x18 virgin bass drum (highly reccomended over the 16" deep with tom mounts), 10x8 and 12x9 mounted toms, and 14x14 and 16x16 floor toms. I figured the birch would be all attack and no warmth or resonance, but they sound absolutely phenomenal. I was completely wrong. The bass drum puts out soooo much low end it's ridiculous. It's very powerful and perfect for metal drummers, in my opinion. It punches very lively and booms like a cannon. It has quite a bit of ring for a bass drum, so if you're a solo drummer, I reccomend a pillow and small port hole, but playing with a band, the ring is a blessing. It gives a lot of presence and fullness to the overall sound of the music. The toms are warm and resonant, yet they have excellent attack and projection. The higher toms have a very "sweet," precise and beautiful tone, excellent clarity, and a fairly wide tuning range. The floor toms have a bit of a fatter sound with a smooth midrange and a nice boom in the low end. Very strong tone, and they blend excellently with the bass drum. I haven't tried the snare, I use a Yamaha brass snare. This is an amazing kit for the price. I compared it next to a DW kit and personally, I liked the Masters much better. I strongly recommend at least trying this kit out before buying anything else. And don't ruin it with pinstripes or some other dampening head! Let them siiing! They really sound great with the stock Ambassadors, or the G2's I'm using. Also, they are pretty easy to tune, and the optimount system is my favorite so far. So anyway, truly great sounding drums at a pretty decent price. Give them a try.

Masters BRX

I bought my BRX without ever listening to one. After playing it I`m sure glad I bought it. It sounds so good. They are certainly EQ`d, the tone is so clear. They have the right amount of highs with a good low end punch. So don`t let anybody tell you that you can`t get good bottom end out of a BRX. My drum sizes are 18x22 bass drum, 12x9 rack tom, 15x13 floor tom w/legs and a 18x16 floor tom. I also have the BRX 14x5.5 snare drum. The finish is Wine Red with black chrome hardware. Simply beautiful! I use all A Customs with the kit and it all sounds great.

Speaking for itself!!!!!

By Bgdnblwnmiho

I bought a 7 piece brx kit only a few months ago and I have used it in the recording studio to track my bands last few songs!!!! The difference from my last kit had my producer convinced to redo all the drum tracks on the rest of our songs!!!!! I played a Session Series kit before I bought the BRX and have always loved PEARL. It is a recording kit but its use out doors is great as well. Mic'n the kit sounds way better than playing an outdoor kit with little mic'n.... So in closing if you have the money to buy this or another high end kit I would choose this kit hands down!!!!! D.W. Who?????

Freakin Sweet!!!!!

By Brokedrummer321

from Clinton, sc

I bought these drums used from a church and they are amazing. I got a seven piece(in platinum mist) with the rack and everything.Beautiful drums.....still not as exciting as the sounds they produce. These things are loud and proud, they have as much resonance as you could ever need and they sound great. I love the big bass drum on mine, that thing is thumping!!!The only bad thing i found on these drums is that the floor toms are somewhat hard to tune (i had a buzz that drove me nuts for a few hours of tuning). Other than that these drums are great!!!! I look forward to using these drums a long time..... i blew all my cash on them so i will be using them a while.

More than you'd expect

I bought mine three years ago as a B-stock (demo) kit, and was just amazed at the high quality of the kit. The finish is virtually perfect, and the shells are incredibly well made, with terrific bearing edge work. Everything you've heard about Pearl Masters kits are true! Many say the birch kits are all about attack and low end, but with creful head choice, there's a tremendously warm, midrange, and very good sustain to be head from the shells. These drum come with remo Clear Ambassadors all around, which are fine heads by themselves. But by changing to Remo Suede or Renaissance heads, the frequency response of the drums is made a bit more even, brining out a warm midrange--but not like maple. Birch speaks all on its own, and with a unique voice. Read up on the Suede/Renaissance head--there's much to be learned! For the best sustain from the small toms--mine are 10 x 8, and 13 x 10--I have found that changing to Pearl's I.S.S. mounts and Superhoops extended the usable tuning range for the <14" toms, and greatly increased their sustain. I also suspend my toms off the cymbal stands to allow the bass drum to speak clearly. It came with Powerstroke 3s front and back, but now wears an EMAD batter, and a Smooth White reso. When tuned properly, it's a cannon.Want Pearl Masters quality, but can't quite make the MMX/MRX/MSX/MHX? No sweat--save about $500 and get a BRX kit. Fabulous drums, and much more than you expect!

Love 'em

By nomadsound

Bought these drums in Pewter glass, not the colour I wanted but fell in love with it when I seen them in person. These drums sound great in all venues, great punch in the 22x18, just the right tones in the mounted toms. Love 'em, Love 'em, Love 'em!!!

Love them!

This was probably one of the best investments I've ever made. This kit is phenominal, it has a great warm sound for studio use but the birch still cuts through enough for live. I use Remo pinstripes on the toms (No Zero ringers needed), and they sound great. Was so happy with the sound of this kit, I went and got the new Masters Retrospec, which is also spectacular.

Don't have drum mics...

By Jon Pyle

...you may not need them. Birch is known for it's ballanced sound but also it's projection. I've used this in gig settings unmiced and its cuts through everything. This kit is loud! The toms are cutting yet warm and the kick has sooo much punch to it with a good bottom end. I also have a matching BRX snare and I think it's the best Masters snare out there due to how well birch cuts, perfect for a snare. If you do not have the money for a maple this kit will not disappoint you, trust me. Ocean Sparkle w/Satin Hardware looks quite nice on it too *wink, wink*

7-Piece BRX w/ Matching Snare in Platinum Mist

By Justin Bailey

from Lynden, WA

I purchased these drums after using them in a live venue. Excellent tuning range, clarity, and projection; you can hear every individual stroke. The fit and finish is also top notch and far above the standards of many custom builders. the snare is really a stand-out with great clarity (again) and pop. My only beef with these drums is that the bearing edge contacts the head as it curves to meet the collar, making tuning somewhat more difficult and causing the bass drums hoops not to seat properly.
