Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

Very Nice snare. Our sound man loves it with a sm57. Lite, compact, sensitive, nice pop to it, and not overwelming volume wise which is nice for live performances when you want to keep stage volume down to get a good FOH mix.

I didn't know how good it could get

Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

So I normally play a 13"x7" OC Maple snare. Wonderful drum. But it was somewhat overbearing when trying to coax a low volume with a nice pitch from it. In a larger live setting it shined. On a whim I considered a birch snare for a more mellow sound. However I really didn't want the added resonance of a 14" snare. I have one that I hardly ever use. (Not that it also doesn't sound great. Thank you PDP/DW).However, two cracks at the Omar Hakim snare told me I had to have it. I agree that the rimshots can be overwhelming. So I use a jazz oak stick with it, even for rock, and CRACK! I cannot even begin to put into words how good that crack can sound. Especially when wrapped up in the warm tone of a mahogany shell. My hat is off to Pearl on this one. And I, like other users had sworn them off as my shell of choice in favor of other brands. And like other users "never say never". Bang for the buck (Pun intended) is amazing. Every drummer should hit one of these at least once.

          Best Snare

Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

This is the most sensitive snare I've ever tried, you can hear every single note even the softest one; although its a 5" depth snare the mahogany shell and the 13" diameter give the power to cut through. I play mostly funk, jazz and latin with this snare, and it sounds incredible. However this snare has a nice crack to use it in rock and pop too.

          Holy Cow !

Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

Before Purchasing a set of Keller Vintage Mahogany shells I thought I would try something made of African Mahogany 1st, and I was totally blown away by the Blue Blood sound of this snare drum. I never thought after 40 plus years that I would ever hear a snare drum that could compete with a Black Beauty or an LM411 Super Sensitive, but sure enough this Baby Rips. The only thing that shocked me was the dirt cheap price of it. The Quality far exceeds the price, which is another rarity today. Last but not least, I swore I would Never buy anything from Pearl, Tama, or Yamaha decades ago because of thier distasteful, rude and crude 3 inch holes they used to drill into the bass drums for tom mounts. They refused to offer Virgin Bass Drums at the time (A Long Time), Well never say never! This Signature snare drum is now in my Top 5. Hats Off to Hakim!

          WOW!!

Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

This is the best snare I have ever played and I will surely be buying in the near future. The sensitivity has got to be the best feature about this drum. Every hit, whether it were an accent or a ghost note, had amazing clarity with good penetration while still having a nice rounded tone and some really strong attack. Even when setting the drum to a higher tuning and being a 13" snare, the low tones are well presented thanks to the mahogany shell (also making it deceptively heavy when picking it up). Only thing I can say I didn't like about this drum is the cross sticking. It doesn't have a nice clave snap to it as I found it carried too much sustain and had a bit of a "twang" like a timpani or something like that. Aside from that, absolutely amazing.

Won't leave the home without it!

          By Racman

Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

I've been playing drums for the past 30 years of my life. I've always been in the market for a snare that is capable in meeting the needs of a variety of musical sound....The Omar Hakim snare is The Bomb! Spectrum I play is jazz to alternative rock and this snare responds very well and leave you with plenty of room to play it from really soft (still retain the detail cleanness) to very hard. When mike, this drum is incredible live and I mean live and well. When people describing the 'crack' of this drum it has nothing to do with annoyance but rather a clean, sharp yet tolerable pitch with a unique roundness to it due to the subtle density of the African mahogany shell. So if maple is unaffordable (out priced usually), don't let the word mahogany discourage you cause this is a high-end designed of a snare that Pearl in their careful collaboration with Mr. Omar has produced something of rare innovation in my estimation. And on top of all that, it's really priced right. To be honest, the only reason I risked purchasing this snare was simply the name of my favorite drummer. But never the less, it was risk that was well compensated for over and over again.

          Great Snare

Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

This is a loud snare, but it also has a sensitive side. I love the feel of this snare for any style of playing: I've used it for jazz, hip hop, rock, and metal, as well as plenty of things in between. Its got a powerful crack, but tuning is very important (as with any drum). I've found that this snare has a narrow tuning range, so you have to tune it high, else it will have a kinda weird feel.Rim shots on here are intense. They cut really well, which is great in a loud setting. My one complaint is that its pretty expensive. If you can spare the cash, its a great snare.

Since i wrote my review in 2004, I have owned several more snares, including a maple Free Floater and a Black beauty. I've since sold 'em all, and except for a very old Walberg & Auge project snare I'm restoring, the only snare I use is the Hakim. I know many folks love to have huge snare collections, but the Hakim does everything so well, why bother? Especially now that mine wears tube lugs... Buy one of these before they stop making them!

          Versatility

Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

Through all the searching, this snare owns the ability to perform in many different applications. When I record, I have found myself going back to this snare for everything from rock sessions to country. The rimshot off this snare will bring the soul of Mr. Marley back to life......I love my black beauty, piccolo's, classic 5"x14" maple snares, but Pearl and Omar outdid themselves with this snare. Also, I have found the true-est tone to the wood when it is really tightened up.Every serious drummer should have one, you'll find yourself coming back to it again and again.

          great feel

Comments about Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum:

I play a pearl free floating maple snare and also own a black panther maple snare. The free floating is very dry yet has a nice clean crack and very little buzz, but its dryness results in poor bounce and feel. the black panther is the opposite great feel and bounce for rolls but it has too much buzz, to wet of a sound. I played the omar hakin snare at guitar center yesterday and it had a nice sharp clear tone with a great bounce and enough wetness for rolls. this is the sound i believe most drummers are searching for. The tama warlord maple snare had a similar tone yet it was bigger and actually had a higher pitched sound which was strange. Im definately considering buying this snare maybe if i can get a good price for one of my other snares
