I received my mounts today and was so very disappointed to learn that the measurement for the mount is for the drum DEPTH... NOTTTTTT the drum diameter. It never would have occurred to me that they were talking about the depth.

I bought a set of these for my toms which had the mounts attached directly to the shells. Don't ever buy drums with the mounts on the shells, it kills the resonance. Anyway, these were a big improvement over what I had. I then tried out the RIMS style mounts, and was very impressed! The Optimounts still keeps the shell from resonating to its full extent. I like my toms to sing out. If you prefer a more dead sound, then you'd probably like these, if not look for RIMS.

Pearl Optimount: As others have pointed out the measurments refer to the depth of your drum instead of the diameter. I like the way it holds the drum away from the mount arm, I have the traditional 4 lug top suspension on my other kit and I have to make sure it doesn't touch the arm during use.

I think overall this is a good solution for drummers not wanting to spend the equivalent of purchasing new drums. This mounting system serves its purpose and is a good value. I cannot speak to the change in sound or resonance yet. I purchased these foremost to replace the previously worn out hardware on my mounted toms. The only issue I had was mis-interpreting the sizing for the mount. My experience with drum sizes have always been with diameter sizes(12", 13" mounted toms) Unfortunately it turned out that the Pearl Optimount system uses the drum depth? Weird in my opinion. Once I figured this out however, Musicians Friend was very reasonable in doing an exchange for the size I really needed. I have Mapex 12" and 13" diameter mounted toms that I purchased a optimount for and they worked well. 12" takes a 10-11" optimount and 13" takes a 12-13" optimount.

Delivery was quick and easy as always with Musician's Friend. This is the best place to buy any kind of drum equipment, hands down.
I purchased these mounts to upgrade my vintage 1980's Pearl MLX kit. The mounts fit and look great. Not much change in the tonal quality of the drums but I didn't expect much since the tom lugs extend the entire length of the drum. The mounts do not touch the shell at all so if you have minimum contact lugs I'm sure the mounts would have quite an impact on the sound of the drum. On my set the hole in the new mount does not match up with the existing hole in the drum from the old mount. You're also left with small bolt holes in the drum shell (from the old mount). The new mount pretty much hides the holes from the outside. If you have clear heads and seeing the holes in the drum from the inside bothers you I'm sure you can find some plastic plugs at a hardware store to put in the large hole and the bolt holes to hide them.
Very sturdy and finish looks high quality. You'll like they way they look.
A bit expensive but worth the one time investment to upgrade a kit that I'll be using for years to come. If you're upgrading to sell your drums don't waste your money. Adding these won't increase the value of your set enough to recoup your investment.

Please realize that the measurements given are NOT the drums diameter they are for the drums DEPTH!Great product! I recommend pairing with Pearl's gyro-lock tom mounts so you can position the toms anyway you want them.

I bought 3 of these for my toms, including the massive 16x16 floor tom, even with that it held strong effortlessly and did not change the sound of the drums, at all, and it is easily removable

I want to start by saying this an awsome mount! Only problem I had was th 15-16" mount didnt fit my 16" floor tom. It did however fit my 18"... a litle odd but the lugs were to far apart for the mount. Wish I could find one to fit my 16!

These mounts are an excellent way to upgrade your mounted tom sound, but be aware that when removing your old mounts you will be left with a hole in the drum in most cases. I am a drummer and drum restorer/rebuilder, and the perfect time to do this upgrade is when recovering your drums. That enables you to cover and fill the location of the old tom mount. A GREAT way to give new life to an older kit for MUCH less $ than buying a new set. My personal kit is a 30+ year old 6 ply Mahagony (12" and 13")and 6 ply Maple (10", 14", 16") Pearl Export set, and I removed the plastic covering, filled all breaches (holes) in the mounted tom shells, and recovered them in an Ash wood veneer, followed by a hand rubbed gloss urethane finish, topped off with the Optimounts, they sound like a Masters series kit now and look totally custom. For a bit of sweat and much fewer $ than I would have to pay to replace them....SWEEEET! The original hardware on these drums is chromed so well that when cleaned and polished and remounted on the shells it looks new.

I have these on all of my drums but the floor tom. Honestly, my drums sounded totally different after I put these on. They're easy to install, high quality, fully adjustable, and look great.
