OVERVIEW

A practical solution for those who need a quiet practice set that works for playing live!

With the Pearl Rhythm Traveler drum set, you get a complete set of quality drums and hardware, specifically designed to be lightweight yet sturdy and durable. Rhythm Traveler shells are manufactured by Pearl's patented Heat Compression Shell Molding System, which is the same process used for every drum Pearl makes. Tom sizes are 10", 12", and 14" in diameter; and their 5" deep, single-headed design allows them to neatly stack for compact travel while producing a great tone for live performance. Rhythm Traveler's wood-shell snare drum is 13" x 5" and produces a very warm, full-bodied snare tone with excellent crack.

If you're like most drummers, rehearsal time is limited. Simply finding a place to practice without disturbing the peace can be tough. But imagine being able to practice anytime of the day or night, on a full-sized, 5-piece kit, without disturbing anyone. Then imagine carrying the same kit, neatly stacked in the passenger seat of your car, to a live gig. Rhythm Traveler combines both these drumming necessities at a price well within reach of any working drummer. Rhythm Traveler is the go-anywhere, practice-anytime kit of your dreams.

With Rhythm Traveler, you get 2 complete sets of heads, one for live performance and one set of Pearl's Muffle Heads for silent practicing. Muffle Heads are manufactured of a super-strong mesh fabric that responds like a regular drumhead, while producing virtually no sound. Rhythm Traveler produces the realistic feel of a regular kit, complete with rim shots, every time you rehearse. And the best part is that changing from a practice kit to a live kit is as easy as changing the batter heads and adding cymbals. Speaking of cymbals, the Rhythm Traveler comes with real cymbals for live playing: a 16" crash/ride cymbal and a pair of 14" hi-hats. Thick rubber cymbal mufflers are included for practicing. Rhythm Traveler is great for the working drummer needing a small portable kit, the beginning drummer needing to get started with a quality set, or any drummer that's tired of practicing at someone else's convenience.

Compact Travel
Rhythm Traveler's toms neatly stack to create an extremely compact kit for transport. Every facet of the kit, including every piece of hardware, has been designed with the working and rehearsing drummer in mind. Pearl's sturdy 70W Series hardware offers both double-braced legs and a low-mass, lightweight design, making it the perfect complement to Rhythm Traveler. You no longer have to have a large vehicle to be a drummer. With Rhythm Traveler your kit can even fit in the passenger seat of your car.

Live Performance
Rhythm Traveler is the perfect kit for most any live performance situation where space, or the lack of it, is a major concern. With Rhythm Traveler, you're set up, sounding great, and ready to play before most drummers could even unload their set. And when the gig is over, you're out just as quickly. With Rhythm Traveler, going from practice to live performance is as easy as changing the batter heads and adding a couple of cymbals.

Silent Rehearsal
When you're ready to practice, there's no substitute for the feel of a real drum kit. Rhythm Traveler's silent Muffle Heads and cymbal pads allow you to keep the response of a drumhead and quietly rehearse anytime you choose. Plug in a set of phones and play along with your favorite tunes, or just grab a few minutes when everyone else is sleeping”with Rhythm Traveler anytime can be rehearsal time.

Rhythm Traveler Hardware
Rhythm Traveler comes complete with a full set of Pearl's all 70W Series double-braced hardware. This impressive hardware line was developed to provide maximum stability and durability, while keeping weight to a minimum for ease of transport. Every function and feature on Pearl's 70W Series hardware is straightforward and dependable with ease of use as the ultimate goal. All pipe joints feature an extended nylon joint bushing providing an extremely strong and stable adjustment system.

Rhythm Traveler's H-70W hi-hat stand offers a direct link pull system for precise feel and strong action, sturdy double-braced legs, full height adjustability, and a fully adjustable cymbal clutch. The S-70W provides adjustments for both height and basket tension, and its double-braced leg tripod and low center of gravity make it an extremely stable stand. The C-70W cymbal stand provides a 3-section adjustment system, a deep gear cymbal tilter, and sturdy double-braced legs. The P-70 bass drum pedal features a great-feeling, strap-drive cam system; full adjustment over spring tension; and Duo Beat beater for use with both standard and Muffle Heads.

This is my favorite drum kit I've ever owned. I've got the sound of my old Pearl sets in a simple and very compact configuration. My previous drums (even the electronic's) took up a large amount of my home studio and these guy's fit perfectly. I don't really plan to be packing them up and doing regular gigs but if I decide to they will fit in the back seat of my truck with no problem.
I highly recommend these for anyone. Beginner to Pro.
If you don't believe me about the sound there are a couple of guys on YouTube that will show you what they are capable of.
After being retired from drumming for 6 years I decided I wanted to get back into it, and I wanted Acoustic's and not electronic ( last set were Yamaha's). I wanted the simplicity of no wires and the ability to practice quietly if need be. After reading the reviews I decided to give the Rhythm Travellers a shot. ( I had owned two different Acoustic Pearl set's in previous years so I was familiar with the reputation of Pearl. I have played drums for over 40 years and this little set blew me away. The other post's are right about one thing the cymbals that come with the kit would work for a beginner but that's pretty much it. The high hats really aren't terrible..but the 16" doesn't really have a "sound" just more of a metallic "noise". I ordered new cymbals two days after receiving these. Having no bottoms heads just saved me some work because I always set my kits up as "power toms" with no bottom heads. What really caught me off guard was the incredible sound from the 20 inch Kick drum. I cut a 5 inch port in the front head for mic-ing, put a rolled up towel in the bottom and it sounds as good as any full bass I ever played.
I rate the Pearl R/T's a nine only because of the cymbals. The batters that come on the snare and tom's are not bad at all. and the mesh heads for silent practice are great. I did choose to up-grade the cymbals to Zildjians and the batters to Evans and I would not be afraid to play this set at any gig.
The Pearl R/T's are a great value for a beginning drummer as they are. For intermediate's or old pro's
figure in the cost to do some upgrades. (cymbals and heads). The hardware that comes with it is true Pearl quality. Good double braced stands with chain drive on kick pedal and H/H.

This kit was a bit disappointing to me. I'm a hobbyist who has been playing for over 3 years (I own TAMA Swingstar and Roland electronic kits) and was expecting a better quality kit for the money. The toms lack depth and pitch, and the cymbals are too tinny sounding. This kit should be advertised as a beginner kit, not a traveling kit for all drummers. Those who have been drumming for a while will certaily hear the difference. New drummers, however, may enjoy this as a good starter kit.

Good quality kit

By JIM DOWNING

from Oregon

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

This is a great deal for the money. Like I said, I sold my kit, but I may buy another kit again, if I decide to start playing again. I'll get a decent set of hi hats and a crash/ride.
This kit is pretty handy, because it takes little space, is easy to haul to a gig, sets up real quick, and sounds good.
The only problem is that the cymbals are junk, but what can you expect for this kind of price?? I never used the mesh heads, it would have too much trouble to change the heads all the time. I didn't use the rubber cymbal covers either, but I traded the cymbals, rubber pad and mesh heads for other gear. The Pearl hardware iis very good quality as are the shells and heads. I am an amateur player, but a friend who is a real pro borrowed the set and they sounded great! They looked good under the stage lights, too.
Thus is a good value in my opinion. I bought it about 6 years ago and last year I sold the kit for the price I paid, however, I had three Sabian B 8 cymbals and an upgraded foot pedal. I probably had more in the whole kit. With the stuff I traded earlier, I didn't do too bad.

Exactly what I was looking for

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

Notice that I rated the unit 10 overall even though each independant rating was only a 9. The sum is greater than the parts here. This is a really, really cool kit. Perfect for quiet practice, easy enough for a novice to set up, and decent sound to at least get started as a novice or for a more advanced player to have a portable kit.
I was looking for an inexpensive starter kit, compact for studio & travel, and capable of quiet practice. Previously owned an electronic kit and hated the feel of hitting rubber all the time. This kit was exactly what I was looking for. It's got all the features I needed and I have no complaints.
Pearl makes an impressive product. Everything was shipped in excellent packaging. Everything went together nice and easy. And everything was high-quality. The instrucutions even had a few funny comments and illustrations (warnings about earthquakes tipping over cymbals, injuring fellow band mates with sticks, etc).

My only gripe with the quality is that of the cymbals. They are a little dark in my opinion, but the complaint is a very minor one. I can always get additional cymbals later.
This kit new was a better value than some used kits on saw on Craigslist. I'm very happy with the value.

This kit is a good kit, especially for starters but it is a different kind of kit. If you buy this kit offline dont expect a big rock drumming sound, more of a beebob kind of drum set but it sounds real nice, my advice is try it out at a gc first to see if its waht u want

Bought this set because it was small and wouldn't take over my room.Duct tape behind the heads, stuffed the bass, still need to buy new cymbals since the kit ones are like tin. You get what you pay for, and i still rate it a solid 5.This kit is either for a beginner to get their rhythm down, or a pro backstage.I am now buying a new snare and cymbals and this kit should last me another few years if not forever.I assume this will have a great resale value since it is appealing to all.Great product

    Very Good Kit for Travel

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

I bought this kit as a travel/practice/audition kit. It's easy to break down/set up. If you're on the go like me, I encourage you to buy this drum kit. It's way better than breaking down my Pro Sonor Kit and easier to carry in the car. I use a Pulse cymbal bag (excellent quality), a Gator soft padded bag (18' X 24") which the entire drums fit into. And I use a Stagg hardware bag for my hardware, throne, etc. 3 bags and I'm ready to go. The kit sets up easily in minutes. I would buy an extra cymbal stand to complete the set. Also, the cymbals are junk (trash em) so use better quality cymbals. This drum kit has made my carrying of equipment a lot easier. Definately worth the money.

I got this set for christmas in 09 and its my very first set. Its awesome!! Its so portable i did a informative speech with it in a very small class room. Set up time is very short compared to other sets ive seen. The only complaint ( like others) is the cymbals. THey way to many dents and dings, so im working on getting a Sabian cymbal pack. The only things you may need for this set is, better cymbals, a snare muffler, and a bass muffler.

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

I've been playing for 35 years and I own several high end kits. I purchased this kit for practices with my bands in small rooms and small gigs. I Love it!!! I couldn't believe the quality of the hardware. There is no junk on these drums! They are sturdy and dependable!Of course you will want to use real cymbals. I didn't expect them to be good for the price of the kit.The Hi-Hat stand and the Foot Pedal are truly playable! Not the best, But medium quality! They work and I use them daily.I cut a porthole on the bass reso and I installed an Aquarian Super Kick I on the bass batter. The bass drum sounds good at a low volume. Perfect for small gigs and practice.I can't believe the snare! I tuned it to sound good with the stock heads! The toms like med to high tuning. Of course with no reso's, they sound different than standard drums. I still like them at low volumes.I played this kit live with full mics twice at outdoor venues and it was great! It also saves my 52 year old back from lugging heavy gear to practice and small gigs. My band mates love the low volume that it produces at practices.I added two light weight cymbal stands that match the Hi-Hat and cymbal stand that come with the kit and now I have two crash cymbals instead of a crash/ride.

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

This is a great compact kit. The cymbals that come with it are trash but the hi-hats are actually usable. The bass sounds incredible and requires a light muffling. The toms are a little hard to tune, but if you tune them high they will sound good. The hardware is the usual Pearl excellent quality, lightweight yet works extremely well and is solid. The snare sound incredible. The biggest plus is the compact transport capability. The whole thing will basically fit in the front seat of a car.

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

After ordering this kit, I read some negative reviews and I worried I had made a big mistake. So I was skeptical when this kit arrived. But with some good heads (remo pinstripes for the toms, evans dry for the snare, stock heads for bass, and evans e-rings on toms), and after tuning the drums just right, ALL DOUBTS WERE LAID TO REST. This kit sings! And is a blast to play. Great bargain and easily updated with full size bass drum, etc. Best money I've spent on drums, and I've spent a great deal over the years.

A fine drumset in a small package

    By GeezerDrummer

    from Virginia

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

I?ve had the Rhythm Traveler set for 3 years, and I love it! I?m an old retired guy, and I play with two community bands each week, along with the occasional jam session. This set is easy to move around, and I don?t need a van. Also the muffle heads are great for quiet practice when other people are around. Over the years I?ve gradually replaced the cymbals and the heads. (You don?t really expect a great set of cymbals with a kit, do you?) I?m using all Zildjian A cymbals: 20" medium ride, 16" medium thin crash, 10" splash, and 14" New Beat hi-hat. I replaced the tom heads with Remo pinstripes (made them sound like full-size toms); put an Evans Genera Dry head on the snare; and an Evans EMAD head, with external damper ring, on the bass. The set was good to begin with (except that it needed a real ride cymbal); it?s now a really fine set that sounds good with small combos or 50-piece bands.

This was my first ever drum kit and i loved it...BUT! I quickly found problems with the bass drum, I had to stuff it full to bursting to get a decent sound out of it and the hardware on it was stripped alot.Of course, the stock heads and cymbals were crap, quickly solved by a zildjian zbt pack and some remo headsoverall it is a good kit, one you get past the hurtfull teasing fom fellow drummers :(

A Pearl that won't make you hurl!

from Silver Spring, MD (Washington, D.C. area)

    See all my reviews

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

Plastic cymbals?! Forget this- get the best versatile cymbals that you can finance. ( I recommend Zildian's "A" series 22" ping ride.) I'm going with Traps' A400 set because their cymbals, while cheapo, are at least realmetal, and their drum racked design is better for quick set-ups. I'll mostly play at subway stations, grocery stores, parks and other outdoor venues where portability and quick set-up & break-down time matter a lot. Traps sets up a lot faster than the Rhythm Traveler (though its included stacked drum carry bag is nice), since one just unloads the rack and your hi-hat stand. I own an Alesis DM Pro electronic set with SURGE cymbals for production, and for apartment use with cymbal mutes. Despite time spent tweaking the output levels and low hi-hat output levels, I like my kit more than my drummer friend's Roland TD-3 with its rubber pads and fewer convincing sounds, which blow away Yamaha's ghastly, tinny sounds! Stick to your fine keyboards, or get it together, Yamaha! Try every brand and model. No single drum set will meet a discriminating drummer's wish or need list.I recommend that a drummer start with one good-enough kit- whether acoustic, electric or adaptable with triggers- as long as you like the sound (and, to a lesser extent, the feel) of the kit on the whole. Finally, learn all that you can about studio recording set-ups- tune and mic these puppies, and drums sound awesome; ignore this at your peril (and that of your band/company!)

Small kit, small price, BIG sound

    By Tim

    from Love Park, Illinois

Comments about Pearl Rhythm Traveller 5-Piece Drum Set:

I bought this kit two months ago. I play 3-5 gigs a week. I play alot of places with limited space and the footprint of this kit is small. The quality of the drums is good. The hardware is really good, especially at this price point. Yes, the cymbals are low end but lets face it, if someone's just starting to play they're fine. Most seasoned players are going to have their own cymbals already so it's not an issue. I put Evans EC2's on the toms, a G2 coated on the snare, with a Remo Muffle ring, and Remo powerstroke3 on the beater side of the bass drum and Evans EMAD on the resonant side. I used this kit at an outdoor festival and when all the drums were mic'd up the sound guys could not believe that big sound was coming from this kit. The hardware stays locked in and doesn't loosen and the black finish gives it a purposeful look. I carry all the drums in a 18x20 bass drum bag, with my hardware bag and cymbal bag, my set-up/teardown is 15 minutes max! I've been playing 39 years and I would recommend this kit to beginners or seasoned players. I'm telling you, it's alot of value for very little money.
